PLANT PROPAGATION BY CUTTING
• Plants that are usually propagated by cutting are those plants with nodes
and internodes such as sugarcane, cassava, sweet potato, bamboo, and,
other plants whose stems have active lateral Buds or terminal Buds, and
are capable of developing adventitious roots such as gumamela, santan,
malungay, ect. There are also species of plants that are reproduced by
leaf-cutting, plants whose leaves are capable of developing roots and set
of new shoots such as African violet, begonia rex, sanseveria.
PLANT PROPAGATION BY CUTTING
• Cuttings from plants with nodes and internodes must bear at least
3 active buds. For sugarcane, there must be at least 3 “eyes” to a
cutting.
• Cutting from trees like lanzones, santol must also bear with
several active lateral buds. After cutting, you can use root
hormone to induce rapid root growth and stimulates growth of
the buds.
CONSIDERATIONS DURING CUTTING THE
PLANTING MATERIALS:
• When the cuttings are about 6 months old and have enough
leaves, these are balled one by one and transplant to the prepared
field where they can grow into a normal plants.
