INTRODUCTION

 Natural Resource Management (NRM) refers to the sustainable utilization of

natural resources, such as land, water, air, minerals, forests, fisheries, and flora
and fauna.

 The practice of NRM considers the ways in which societies manage the supply
of or access to the natural resources upon which they rely for their survival and
development.
SCIENTIFIC METHODS

 Remote Sensing
• Utilizing satellite imagery, aerial photography, and other remote sensing
technologies to gather information about the Earth's surface and monitor changes
in land cover, vegetation, and other environmental variables.
 GIS
• Resource assessment, change detection, suitability analysis, scenario study,
impact assessment
SCIENTIFIC METHODS

 Statistical Analysis:

• Applying statistical methods to analyze collected data, assess variability, and

draw conclusions about the significance of observed patterns.

 Modeling:
• Developing mathematical or computer models to simulate natural processes and
predict future scenarios based on different management strategies.
NATIONAL NATURAL RESOURCES
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

 National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS) is an intrinsic

system to manage the natural resources of our country by using remote
sensing satellites.

 It provides data/information about natural resources using Indian RS (IRS)

satellites that are further utilized for various agricultural applications like the
estimation of preharvest crop area and production of major crops, drought
monitoring, irrigation command area status monitoring, land use/land cover
(LULC) mapping, forest survey and environmental impact analysis.
ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT FOR NRM

 Adaptive management, an approach for simultaneously managing and learning

about natural resources. Adaptive management is particularly used in situations
where natural resource systems are subject to uncertainties, such as climate
change, habitat degradation, or shifting ecological dynamics. It allows for a
responsive and dynamic approach to managing resources sustainably, ensuring
that management strategies can be refined based on the evolving understanding
of the system and its responses to interventions.
ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT PROCESS
CONCLUSION

The integration of scientific methods and adaptive management is important for

effective and sustainable natural resource management. The scientific method
provides a structured and systematic approach to understanding the complexities of
ecosystems, allowing for the collection of reliable data and the formulation of
informed hypotheses. It should be recognized that not every natural resource
problem is amenable to adaptive management.
