Learning the keys
 In western music we use these notes below to create all kinds of music. We
use the alphabet from A – G and then repeat it again.
 To be able to play piano and keyboard it is very helpful to find C on your key
board.
Learning the Keys
 When we look for the C on the keyboard we have to look at the black keys.
The trick is to find the two black notes that are next to each or the
CHOPSTICKS!
 Once you have found the two black notes next to each other the C note is the
white note to the left. SEE! C for Chopsticks!!!!
 Don’t get mixed up with the three black notes next to each other. We call
those the Forks. The white note to the left of the Fork is an F. How handy F
for Fork and C for Chopsticks!
Song 1 – We will rock you

We will we will rock you!

Song 3 – Jingle Bells
 This song Requires you to use different durations so focus on holding your
notes for the right amount of time / beats!
Accidentals
 So far you have only used the white keys on the piano so now we are going to
look at the black keys.
 These keys are either slightly higher or slowly lower in pitch without going
straight to the next letter.
 To show this we use what are known as accidentals!
 The ‘#’ symbol means the note will be slightly higher and in front of a
white key
 The ‘b’ symbol means the note will be slightly lower and behind a white
note.
Song 4 – Happy
Birthday
This song makes use of Flats (The ‘b’
symbol) – make sure to play the black
note bellow the letter for these notes
Song 5 – Hedwig’s Theme
This song makes use of Sharps
and naturals!

above the white note

play the regular note.

 Chords are the use of multiple notes played
simultaneously!
 The most common chords that you will
encounter are called ‘triads’ and are made of 3
notes played together at the same time.
 The two types of chords that we will be
focusing on are the ‘Major’ and ‘Minor’ chords
 Major and Minor 3rd intervals are used to
Chord recap build these chords as you can see bellow.
