BURU ISLAND

Buru Island is one of the large islands in the Maluku

Islands.
This island is well-known as an island of exile for political
prisoners during the New Order Government.
COMMUNITY CONDITIONS

Most school-age children in mountainous areas have no

formal education. The lack of basic education for teenagers
has an effect on health levels.
Children in Nafrua Village usually are more often with their
mothers, if the mother has a 5-year-old child, then the
child or toddler is caring for the child.
In general, Mother in Nafrua Village considers
pregnancy to be normal, still working to take wood
weighing 30 kg above her head or back.
They tried to treat themselves with traditional
medicine, which is a mixture of types of leaves and
roots or to buy medicine at a stall.
The area of villages that are still isolated, the access
road is damaged causing them to give birth on
their own.
After childbirth, they do Asar or Pangi, which
is giving smoke through wood that is burned in
the room to use the smoke to warm the body of
the baby and the mother so that the umbilical
cord dries.
Cultural Elements that Influence the
Health of the Buru Ethnic Community;
From the Settlement Moved to Settled
Health factors, especially illness and death
are one of the main causes of Bupolo people in the
mountains moving from one place to another.
 Geba Bupolo Livelihoods Pattern
The daily needs of Bupolo people in Kayeli Kaku are
still very dependent on the availability of nature.

 Geba Bupolo religion; Indigenous Hinduism

According to them, the spirits of people who have
died still continue to live and will accompany every step of
the daily life of their offspring.

 Deposit; Knowledge Inheritance System

The form of safekeeping is in the form of past
stories, history of origin, but also other items such as their
knowledge of the healing process, prayers for childbirth,
prayers for healing
Perception of Causes of Disease According to Geba Bupolo:
Ina Kabuki; epidemic of a disease
The ruler of the sea who dwells in Ipalahin is the
mother of all drugs as well as the king of all diseases to
offer the plague must hold alms by drifting the raft
into the sea so that the subordinates of Ina Kabuki
returned to the sea.

Soe: Soe's Ancestral Demands

One of the causes of illness comes from
negligence to keep safekeeping and respect for the
ancestors. For this belief, Geba Bupolo is the guardian
of the island
Kitam Mhane: Indigenous Spills
This custom spilled is related to customary
law.
Customary spills are one of the sanctions of
customary law that has been applied since the
ancestors.
Rine Create Rine Hai: You Do You
Wretched Cause of illnesses that occur
because of actions that have been done in the past.
Pain Due to Biological Factors
The meeting of the mountain Buru community
with some newcomers in the lowlands and the coast
more or less began to open up people's understanding
of the concept of causes of illness.
The Healing Patterns of Geba Bupolo
(especially in the mountainous region):
1. Semake/ Babeto

Communication with ancestors, and people who have

died, even the miscarriage of a fetus is a means to make
pregnant people, or sick people become healthy. This aims to
make the sick person no longer disturbed and forgiven by
their ancestors.
2. Fufu Mantra
When communication with the ancestors has
been carried out, the healing pattern is carried out by
traditional elders, or people who are trusted by
residents in one Ethnic have entrusted healing spells
from the ancestors.
The mantra is blown on a glass of water and
then drunk on the sick.
3. Roots, Leaves and Bark

When someone is sick, people who know this

concoction will come to the sick person and then they will
concoct the concoction and bring it to the sick person's
home. After drinking the traditional elders were advised
not to tell anyone the makers of these medicinal herbs.
Conclusion
It’s well said that Buru people still
believe in traditional way in health cases. We
all know, that engage people to leave their
tradition is so hard. But, if the government
want to fix the access road and provinding
Mobile Health Center (Puskesmas Keliling),
Buru people will be more aware about their
health, especially in medically. However this
book was made on 2014, hope on 2019 this
habits were already change
