LITERATURE ??
‘Literature’
- a modified form of a Latin word (literra, litteratura or
litteratus) that means: ‘writing formed with letters’.
• ➢ It expresses the feelings and emotions of people.
• It originated from oral traditions.
Eg. Chants, Prayers, Folk Tales, Myths and Legends
• A piece of written works which is undying.
• Literature are imaginative works.
• The contents depend on the author.
WHY STUDY ??
• It will help international relations, the sincere expression of human thoughts and feelings, the
reaction of life as it is being lived by the different people.
➢ Literature showcases cultures. And we tend to read, we ought to learn new things from other
countries or places. We learn how do people react to situations, how they see and perceived life and
how people managed their emotions. We have to know that not all people have the same way of
how to live every day. But through literary pieces, we can learn from it.
• It is an inspiration for man to be better. ➢ One of the functions of literature is to inspire its
readers. A good literary piece can change the reader’s attitude for a better one. Thus, when we read
and study literature, we need also to dig out its morale for it will make as a better person.
• It is a form of escape from reality. ➢ Literature can also bring relaxation. Other people who wants
to relax tend to just sit and read their favorite novels or their favorite magazine. For them, they find
it very helpful to relax their minds from the tiring week brought by their work.
• It allows us to understand each other better. ➢ As people writes what they have in their mind,
readers can also understand them specially their attitudes and characters.
