Introduction
Background of the Project
• CBE increasingly reliant on computer based information
systems for their transaction processing, management
reporting and decision-making.
• Data and information loss may significantly disrupt an
organization’s operations as it often results in unavailability
of critical information systems necessary for business
operations.
• To ensure preparedness from disasters arising from data
losses, organizations adopt different backup strategies and
methods.

Cont’d…
• The CBE switch System is an Outreach and engagement unit
based on in the CBE, with large amount of financial data
transaction
• CBE switch System C-tree Database lacked a standardized,
comprehensive backup System, and risked losing critical
transaction data after 7 days.
• In the unit different cases are coming from Business units, IS
operation Department, Courts and others. Because of
• Currently the team on the switch system department create
transaction file backup from the c-tree server using utilities
such as ctdump.
• These ways of backup, strategy backs up all the files, which
are unnecessary and bulky for further processing.

Statement of the Problem
• Base 24 eps switch system has a database called c-
tree, which is a flat file database system.
• Currently this database maintains transaction
records only for 7 days.
• After the specified number of days, the record will
be automatically removed from the system.
• There is a report generated from the database every
day but the c-tree database system did not contain
all the information required for detailed transaction
investigation after 7 days.

04/03/2024
6
Statement of the Problem…

• This makes the switch System unit difficult to

generate a report and make decision.
• The backup utility used in the unit called ctdump
which makes backup all transaction and other
system generated files which are unnecessary bulks
of files
• The dynamic dump automatically includes the
transaction logs and transaction start files in the
dump stream file.

Research question
• The research project relates to the designing C-tree
database backup management system.
What is the problem of current c-tree database
backup management system?
What problems you face during c-tree database
backup management?
How it affects the business and the customers?

Specific Objective
• To critically examine the various disaster database
challenges faced by CBE base24 switch system c-tree
database
• To maintain the availability of transaction data from CBE
Switch System
• To replicate real time journal transaction data of CBE
Base24-EPS switch system.
• To access transaction data easily requested from end
users

04/03/2024
10
Scope of the Project
• Backup only journal transaction data in CBE base24-eps
switch system unit C-tree Database
• The focus is on examining what CBE switch system how
to manage c-tree database backup
• The study covers issue related to with journal
transaction database backup model as the focus.
• The activities of the project are
Replicate journal transaction from c-tree server to
centralized server
Maintain the transaction data from the centralized
server

Significance of the study
• Minimize the effect of disaster and support business
continuity
• Enable the various stakeholders see the need for improve
and an efficient cum- effective database backup
• To understand the need to enforce and encourage the
policy of database backups in the financial system.
• To backup journal transaction data so that, the CBE
switch system unit can access the backed up data when it
is needed.
• Another significance is to access data for investigation of
different cases

Chapter 3:Methodology

• Describe the methodology used for this study work.

• The project utilized various methods of research in
order to gather information.
online research,
offline research,
interviews, and vendor manuals.

13
Study Area

• Emphasizes on the CBE Base24-eps switch system

unit to assess the opportunity and challenges
associated with the real time data feed (RTF) such
service in the unit.
Participant of the Study
• CBE Switch management employees, which selected
based on their experience with c-tree server
• Employees who has more experience and expert on
the C-tree server operation are considered in the
study.

04/03/2024
14
Sampling Procedure
• The researcher applies purposive sampling technique
(non-random sampling); professional employees
working at CBE switch management c-tree database are
considered.
Possible Sampling Method
• Generally, interview is conducted to the members. Thus,
the samples of the study are six individuals drawn from
the switch management departments.
• The researcher conducted unstructured interview for
each of the selected six staff of the switch management
unit.
• The unstructured interview questions were employed to
collect qualitative data.

Sources of data collection
• Primary and secondary sources of data and other information
used in the Project.
• Primary source of information will have used as a means of
direct observation and interview.
• The interview has made Switch system unit team members who
knows more about c-tree database operation.
• Secondary data collection and recorded materials are widely
used in order to assess the research.
• A variety of offline, print based resources were also accessed.

04/03/2024
17
Research Design

• This study was majorly researched using the

qualitative research strategy because of its flexibility
in acquiring data for subjects with limited
publications.
• To complement the limitations, the interview
techniques is used as the primary method of data
collection under this strategy

04/03/2024
18
Method of data collections

• Primary Data Collection

The primary data is an original and unique data,
which is directly collected by the researcher from a
source according to his requirements
•Secondary Data Collection
Document analysis like vendor provided materials
and database backup procedures are used to analyze
the Study

Chapter 4
Data Collection, Discussion and Analysis

Data Collection
• Theprimary data is collected using
unstructured interview, which are to be
drop and pick method to and from the CBE
Switch management unit of each selected
candidates by the researcher.

04/03/2024
20
Data analysis

• Qualitative data analyses employed to implement

the project
• Since interview questions are designed, data
collected from the interview question are
analyzed using content analysis and thematic
analysis
• To interpret the interview question the researcher
use vendor manual and other documents like
journal papers.

04/03/2024
21
Validity of the Study

• In order to make sure the validity the target groups

included were those who knows better about the issue
being raised.
• The interview has carefully designed and tested with a
few members of participants for further improvement.

DISCUSSION and Findings

Discussion and findings of Respondents responses to

Research interview questions and Document Analysis
switch management system unit have made c-tree ACE
their database engine.
The reason to use the c-tree database management
system are Speed, reliability and consistency.
The drawback back of the c-tree server used in CBE Base
24 switch management system is it maintains the
transaction data for 7 days only.

04/03/2024
23
Cont’d…
• Response to the question techniques used for
backup that the team on the switch system
department create transaction file backup from
the c-tree server are by using utilities i.e dynamic
dump (ctdump )

04/03/2024
25
Cont’d…
• The dynamic dump utility tool backs up all the
transaction files and other system-generated
data.
• This Data also remains on the storage for 7
days.
• When a dynamic dump runs, the disk read
and write operations of the backup process
can slow the performance of other database
operations.

26
Real Time Feed Interface

• According to the literature review we can conclude

that the current backup utility used is backup all the
files which are difficult and bulky of files to access
and maintain for decision making.
• Another problem for the c-tree database is that it
maintains the transaction files for seven days.
• To solve this problem the project must be
implemented using the real time feed interface

04/03/2024
27
Cont’d…
• From manual analysis the (ACI, 2021)
Real Time Feed Interface enables you to
reformat transactions being logged to
the Journal data source, using extract
scripts in near real-time, and send them
to a remote database server for
subsequent processing and analysis

Conclusions and Recommendation
Conclusion of findings
• Replicate transaction data on remote server should put in
place to ensure that the CBE switch management system unit
protect their information and are able to get systems up
faster in an emergency.
• Transaction data, which are very important for further
decision-making, will be deleted from the server after the
specified days.
• Another reason to implement this project is that current data
backup strategy practiced in the CBE switch management is
using ctdump utility.
• Implementing the c-tree server database backup
management system on the CBE switch managements has
significance for maintain the transaction data for a while.

Recommendation
• In order to exploit the benefits that can be achieved from the
provision implementing this project in the unit, the
regulatory body needs to establish a strong link.
• In order to make the system successful, network
infrastructure, server computer, other database software’s
and get real time feed interface module from the vendor is a
major prerequisite.
• Support and license should be required from the vendors
regarding to real time interface module.
• To implement this project training or support may be
required for configuring the real time interface module.
