~Seoul~

The World Design Capital

Introduction
Seoul, the capital of South Korea is the most interesting city I've ever visited. It is pretty different
compared to the city I live in, from the advanced technology, incredible food, fascinating ancient culture and
modern art to the nicest people that you'll ever see on almost every street of the city.
Seoul's tourist attractions are very fascinating, you can either learn their history or just let yourself be
surprised by the eye caching colors that appear all over the place. The attractions are the one thing I'd like
having in my city because, even as a local, it would be an enjoyable experience.
Seoul's geography
Seoul's location is in the northwest of South Korea. The city is roughly divided into two parts by the Han
river. The river is no longer used for navigation because it's located at the border with North Korea where
civilians aren't allowed.
Seoul Fortress Wall, a wall built to protect the city from invaders goes over Seoul's mountains, Bugaksan,
Inwangsan, Naksan and Namsan.
Seoul's history
Seoul is first recorded as Wiryeseong, the capital of Baekje located in the northeastern area of modern
Seoul. The "Southern Capital", a summer palace, was built in the 11th century by Goryeo, a Korean state
founded in 918. Later on, Joseon, the last Dynastic Kingdom of Korea replace Goryeo, the capital being
moved to Seoul.
A trip to Seoul
If I had the chance to go to Seoul on a holiday, I would. Not knowing Korean might bring some problems
but besides that accommodation is no problem. Food trucks and stands pop up from place to place while
staying on a budget and satisfying your appetite.
In Seoul there are a lot of things to do: color analysis, karaoke, fan meetings, amusement parks, shopping
and so on. As for places to visit there are plenty of attractions to visit since Seoul is the capital, here are a few
examples:

● Bukchon Hanok Village – A great place to see in Seoul for Korean architecture
● Myeongdong – A great place in Seoul if you love to shop
●Lotte World – A must-do in Seoul for families!
● Gyeongbokgung Palace – Possibly one of the most important places to visit in Seoul
● Seoul Tower – A place to go in Seoul to see the city from a different angle.
● The Seoul Museum of Art – The perfect attraction in Seoul if you are on a budget!
Seoul city map
With a little bit of help from a family member and some information I've managed to make Seoul's
city map. Seoul is set in a mountainous and hilly terrain. Talking about hilly terrain, Gyeongbokgung,
the main royal palace of Joseon dynasty was the dinasty's main palace which was destroyed by fire
during the Imjin War (1592-1598) just to be once again restored. Its incredible 200 year history is what
makes Gyeongbokgung so important. The War Memorial, Cheonggyecheon, Namsan and some others
are also fairly significant to Seoul's history.
