Truth
• Karmayogi and Sanyasi – One and the same
• Without EGO Mother Nature nourishes the
fields, trees and other plants without
expecting any fruit or gain out of them and
does not take any share

• Why should one give up the burden of

family life only to burden himself with the
life of a renunciate?

• To break the Karmic Cycle:

• Do not hold your EGO with your body that is
performing the task

• Do NOT attach intellect to the fruits of labor

• Krishna says “One who follows the yoga path

should not give up the path of actions”
Journey of Yogi  Ashtanga Yoga Process:
Muddy Waters Left to Stand Becomes Clear – Lao Tzu
1. Yama- ethical rules –Nonviolence, Truthfulness, Non-
Stealing, Chastity and Non-possessiveness)

2. Niyama – Virtuous Habits – purity of mind, speech

Characteristics of such a perfect YOGI
• Sensory faculties are wide open BUT Sense Objects do not enter FOUR states of Awareness:
his mind and he is engrossed in the Knowledge of the Self
1. Waking state – conscious of thoughts
• He is not excited by the pleasures and sorrows in the world - and actions

Mindless 2. Dreaming  Physically unaware but

Mind remains active
• Even if he has to perform actions he does not care about the fruits
3. Deep Sleep  Both mind and body
thereof
are relaxed
• The thoughts of hot and cold, happiness and sorrow, honour and

insult are not possible in such a person

4. Turiya  You are AWAKE in all the

Arjuna – Krishna do I qualify to become Brahm?

Advice On Kundalini Yoga

fountains.

• But there may be a few water birds around and perhaps cuckoo and occasional

peacock may also be there.

• Arjuna, one should look for such a place carefully looking for a secret cave or a

temple of Lord Shiva.

Preparation of Seat
• The seat should be made of Darbha
grass over which one should put a
deerskin and

• further cover it by a clean washed cloth

• The seat should be level and not too

high or too low from the ground

• In short the seat should be steady and

comfortable.
Sitting Posture - Asana

• Sidhasana

• Mahabandh
• Udiyan Bandh

• Jalandhar Bandh

• Moola Bandh - downward path of

the Apana part of the vital breath (or
life force) gets blocked and it starts
receding inside.
Subtle System

• Kundalini resides

in SACRUM Bone

• Rises upwards and escapes thru Brahmarandra

(Fontanela)

• 3 Granthis - Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra Granthi

Autonomic Nervous System
Controls and regulates the internal organs without any conscious recognition or effort by the organism
Amygdala
• The main job of the amygdala is to regulate emotions,
such as fear and aggression.

• The fight or flight response causes the body’s

sympathetic nervous system to release stress hormones
such as cortisol. These hormones can boost blood sugar
levels and triglycerides (blood fats) that can be used by
the body for fuel

• Meditation shrinks Amygdala

• Pre-frontal cortex – associated with higher order brain

functions such as awareness, concentration and
decision-making – becomes thicker
Increase of Positive Hormones

• Adrenaline increases your heart rate, • Dopamine is involved in reward, motivation,

memory, attention, and even regulation of body

elevates your blood pressure and boosts
movements
energy supplies

• When dopamine is released in large amounts, it

creates feelings of pleasure and reward, which

• Cortisol, the primary stress hormone,

bloodstream, enhances your brain's use

availability reduced motivation and decreased enthusiasm

of substances that repair tissues for things that would excite most people
Increased GMV
• The study shows that long-term practice
of Meditation is associated with larger
grey matter volume overall

• Regional Enlargement in several right

hemispheric cortical and subcortical brain
regions that are associated with
• sustained attention

• Self-control

• Compassion

• Ability to identify, access, understand,

and respond appropriately to the
patterns of internal signals
RAS
Mediation can help overcome cognitive bias

• To conserve energy, the brain loves to run on autopilot. It

does this through a bundle of nerves at the brain stem

called the Reticular Activating System (RAS.)

• Our RAS works with our subconscious mind. The

subconscious mind stores all of our core beliefs. The RAS

works every waking moment to confirm the core beliefs we

hold. This is called cognitive bias

• Each time a cognitive bias is confirmed, a neural pathway is

solidified. The belief becomes stronger and stronger. Our

behaviors are driven by our beliefs. We behave as if our

thoughts are "truth," when they're actually quite subjective

What Happens
Shri Krishna  Arjuna In Auto Mode
What you do • The Apana breath then hits the Muladhar Chakra and removes all the

impurities accumulated there since childhood.

• Settle in your Asana
• Then the Apana breath rises to the Manipur Chakra
• Watch your breadth • Then the powerful breath enters the abdomen and eliminates the

phlegm and bile.

• Duality – Invoke your Guru
• Then it reaches the centers of the seven essential elements ( viz. flesh,
• SURRENDER –Mind, Body and Intellect blood, muscles, bones, marrow, chyle and semen), gets rid of the fat, and

drives the marrow out from the bones. It cleans the blood vessels and
• Stabilize in your Siddhasana and relaxes the organs. By creating these ailments it throws the diseases out

from the body. That Apana breath brings the solid flesh and bones and

created by the yogic posture

the internal process
Kundalini reaches Chakras & Purifies Body
• The principle is that Kundalini eats off the Earth principle (solid part) and also licks
• Kundalini swallows the Apana
off completely the Water principle (liquid part) from the body and feeling satiated
• Swallows the fat and excess becomes mild and rests at the Sushumna (middle) nerve in the spine

• Then it searches for the palms and soles, tears • The flow in the Sushumna nerve stops and the functions of the remaining nine

Pranas stop. Because of this the body is without action and becomes still.

nails, purifies the skin and makes it touch the

bones. Then it cleans the insides of the bones, • Then the vital airs passing through the right and left

and scrapes the interior of the blood vessels • At this time, the intellect gets stilled and the remaining fragrance in the Prana

enters the central (Sushumna) nerve along with the Kundalini.

with the result that the roots of the hair are

burnt. It then drinks off the seven essential • Then the spiritual nectar situated at the crown of the head spills into the mouth of

the Kundalini and then gets absorbed throughout the body including the ten Pranas
elements and makes the body hot and dry
Body gets Rejuvenated
• The skin which covers the lustre of this nectar and all the organs show their bright
aura

• Now even Death is afraid of it (the body) and the aging process gets reversed
• The yogi gets bright new nails, new teeth, tiny hair grow on the body, palms and
soles become red and the eyes become so clean that even with half-closed eyes the
range of his vision reaches the sky.

• Body becomes light as air because there is no earth and water principle in it now
• He is able to see beyond the seas and understand what is going on in heaven. He is
able to understand what is in an ant's mind and he can ride the wind. Even if he
walks on water his feet do not get wet.

• Thus he attains spiritual powers (Siddhis) like these

Krishna - Gains from Yoga Practice
• Sense organs be disciplined

• Mind remains steady and his awareness

about the body vanishes even if it is
afflicted by severe pains

• Because of the pleasure of the experience

of the Self the mind forgets the desires
and is no longer mindful of the worldly
matters

• Once the mind dissolves everything

becomes full of divine energy

Saint Tukaram (17th century) to have started the pilgrimage

• The Dindi that witnessed participation of over 5 lakh

devotees last year

• Saints who stitched the Varkari movement belonged to

different castes. While Dnyaneshwar was a Brahmin,

Paramahansa Yogananda
• "The coiled creative life force at the base of the astral spine,
kundalini, has always been symbolized as a serpent.

• When this creative force is "asleep" in delusion, it flows down

and outward and feeds all the senses; uncontrolled, its
stinging venom causes insatiable lusts.

• But when the pure kundalini force is "awakened" by the yogi,

it rises to the brain and is transformed into the bliss of Spirit.

• This uplifting serpentine current is Vasuki, the supreme force

for human liberation."

Let us resume our battle of Kurukshetra…inside-out

• O Arjuna, the Spirit that dwells in the body of

all beings is eternally indestructible.

Therefore, you should not mourn for anybody.

• Considering also your duty as a warrior you

should not waver like this. Because there is

nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a

righteous war.

• You will go to heaven if killed on the line of

duty, or you will enjoy the kingdom on the

earth if victorious.
