The assumptions for using generative AI (ChatGPT, Bing, Bard)
in TRIZ, as follows:
• The accuracy of the results is still not 100% then it is not recommended to use AI as the
ideas or final solutions.
• It is recommended to use AI as a helper in finding resources for thinking (as TRIZ
informative resources) and then the user should adjust or modify those resources to
achieve the target by themselves.
• Implementing the results should validate their realized existence or at least revalidate
them.”
These models are not really thinking, they are just math functions.
They are not actually brains; they are just artificial neural networks.

1. Beyond Function Analysis
Think before prompt
What does the user need? : There is “Function” and User is looking for “System”
Prepare to Prompt : Should provide detail of “Function” and Instruction to AI
Expect from AI : Finding the 5 systems

User Prompt
1. Please explore the 5 novel solutions of technical system which able to perform "To capture
and to move dust by airflow" in tabulated form, including 1. System 2. Detail.
2. Please explore the 5 novel solutions of natural system which able to perform "To capture and

July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 17
1. AI result : technical system
Solution System Detail
1 Electrostatic An electrostatic bag filter combines the principles of an electrostatic precipitator and a baghouse filter. The dust
Bag Filter particles are charged using an electric field, and the charged particles are then captured on the surface of fabric
filter bags. The airflow carries the captured dust to a collection area, ensuring efficient dust capture.
2 Sonic Wave The sonic wave dust collector employs high-frequency sound waves to agitate and dislodge dust particles from
Dust Collector surfaces. The system generates sonic vibrations, causing the dust particles to become airborne. An airflow is
then applied to capture and transport the suspended dust to a collection point, facilitating effective dust removal.
3 Magnetic Dust The magnetic dust separator utilizes magnetic fields to attract and separate ferrous dust particles from the
Separator airflow. A magnetic plate or drum is positioned in the air stream, capturing the magnetic dust particles. The
separated dust can be collected and removed, while the cleaned airflow continues through the system.
4 Fluidized Bed In the fluidized bed dust capture system, the dust-laden air is directed into a fluidized bed chamber. The bed
Dust Capture consists of solid particles that are fluidized by an upward airflow. As the dust-laden air passes through the
fluidized bed, the dust particles adhere to the bed particles, allowing the cleaned air to exit the system. The dust-
laden bed particles can be periodically collected and replaced.
5 Electrokinetic The electrokinetic dust precipitator utilizes electrokinetic effects to capture and remove dust particles from the
Dust airflow. An electric field is applied to induce electrical charges on the dust particles, causing them to migrate
Precipitator towards oppositely charged electrodes. The captured particles can be collected and disposed of, while the
cleaned air is released.

1. AI result : nature system
Solution System Detail
1 Bee Bees, as they fly from flower to flower, unintentionally capture and move dust particles. The fine hairs on their
Pollination bodies attract and collect pollen grains, which are essentially tiny particles. The bees then transport the pollen to
other flowers, facilitating cross-pollination and allowing the dust particles to be moved by airflow.
2 Bird Plumage Birds often have specialized feathers that aid in dust capture and removal. Certain bird species have feathers
with intricate structures, such as barbs and barbules, that can trap and hold dust particles. The airflow created
during flight or preening helps dislodge the trapped dust, allowing the bird to maintain clean plumage.
3 Plant Leaf Many plant species possess tiny hair-like structures called trichomes on their leaves. These trichomes can
Trichomes effectively capture and retain dust particles present in the air. As air moves across the leaf surface, the trichomes
act as a natural filter, trapping and immobilizing the dust. Subsequent rainfall or wind can then remove the dust
from the leaf surface.
4 Spider Silk Spider silk, known for its incredible strength and elasticity, can also capture and move dust. The fine strands of
spider silk act as a natural filter, capturing airborne particles as they float through the air. The silk can be carried
by the wind, enabling the captured dust to be transported to new locations.
5 Whirlwinds Whirlwinds and dust devils are natural phenomena characterized by rotating columns of air picking up dust and
and Dust debris from the ground. These swirling vortices can capture and transport dust over significant distances. As the
Devils whirlwind dissipates or loses strength, the dust particles are released, allowing them to settle in new locations.

3. AI result : Substance-Field Analysis (Cont…)
B. (Optional) In the given statement "Energy Flow Path," the "Tool" and "Object" can be understood as follows:
1. Tool: In the context of TRIZ, a "Tool" refers to a principle or method used to achieve a specific effect or transformation. In the "Energy Flow
Path," the "Tool" would be the specific physical phenomena or mechanism that enables the energy to be transmitted, transformed, or utilized to
achieve the desired function. The "Tool" facilitates the flow of energy and governs how it interacts with the substances in the system.
2. Object: The "Object" in the "Energy Flow Path" refers to the substances or components involved in the system through which the energy flows.
In the given context of welding metal using Brazing Material, the "Object" would be the two substances: the metal (1st Substance) and the
Brazing Material (2nd Substance). These substances are the entities through which the energy flows and interacts to produce the desired
function of joining the two pieces of metal together.
C. (Optional) If a leak is found in the weld joint, there are several possible reasons related to "excessive field," "insufficient field," "harmful action," or
"inappropriate substance parameters" in the Energy Flow Path. Let's explore each of these possibilities:
3. Excessive Field: This refers to an excessive or overwhelming amount of energy or force being applied to the system, which can lead to
undesired consequences. In the context of welding, some possible scenarios of excessive field causing a leak could be:
1. Excessive Heat: If the welding process generates too much heat, it might melt or distort the surrounding material, leading to gaps or
weak joints that result in leaks.
2. Excessive Pressure: High pressure during the welding process can cause deformation or separation of the joint, leading to leaks.
3. Excessive Voltage/Current (in electrical welding): In electrical welding methods like arc welding, excessive voltage or current can lead
to excessive melting or spattering, affecting the integrity of the weld joint and causing leaks.
July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 26
3. AI result : Substance-Field Analysis (Cont…)
2. Insufficient Field: This refers to a lack of necessary energy or conditions needed for a successful welding process. Potential instances of insufficient field leading
to leaks are:
1. Insufficient Heat: If the welding process does not provide enough heat, the filler material may not melt adequately, resulting in an incomplete weld joint
prone to leaks.
2. Insufficient Pressure: If the pressure applied during the welding process is inadequate, the filler material might not properly bond with the base metal,
leading to weak joints and potential leaks.
3. Insufficient Voltage/Current (in electrical welding): In electrical welding methods, insufficient voltage or current might not provide enough energy to melt
the filler material effectively, resulting in poor weld quality and possible leaks.
3. Harmful Action: This refers to any detrimental actions or external influences that negatively impact the welding process or the weld joint, leading to leaks.
Examples of harmful actions are:
1. Contamination: If the welding area or materials used are contaminated with impurities, it can weaken the weld and cause leaks.
2. Vibration or Mechanical Stress: Excessive vibrations or mechanical stress during the welding process can lead to improper fusion between the materials
and create weak points prone to leaks.
4. Inappropriate Substance Parameters: This refers to using the wrong type of filler material, improper welding parameters, or mismatched welding techniques for
the specific application. Some possible examples include:
1. Incorrect Filler Material: Using a filler material that is not compatible with the base metal or the welding process can result in poor weld quality and
potential leaks.
2. Incorrect Welding Settings: Inappropriate welding settings, such as wrong heat, current, or pressure, can lead to weak welds that are susceptible to leaks.
3. Poor Joint Design: Inadequate joint design or preparation can result in improper fusion between the materials, leading to leaks.
July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 27
3. AI result : Substance-Field Analysis (Cont…)
D. (Optional) Problems with "Excessive Field" or "Insufficient Field" in the "Energy Flow Path":
Excessive Field (Excessive Thermal Energy):
Overheating can cause distortion and deformation of the metal pieces, leading to poor joint quality and potential
structural weakness.
It may result in excessive consumption of energy, leading to inefficiency in the welding process.
Insufficient Field (Insufficient Thermal Energy):
Incomplete melting can lead to weak fusion, resulting in a joint that cannot withstand mechanical stresses, leading
to joint failure.
It may require additional attempts to achieve a proper weld, increasing the time and cost of the welding process.

User Prompt
• We found the warping problem of corrugated board which use for corrugated-box. Between the
process of corrugated board and waiting for printing. The stack of corrugated-board is placed on
the floor of the factory. Mostly warping corrugated-board are on top of stacking around 10 percent of
the corrugated board. Could you please explain what are the potential root causes of this problem?

July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 29
4. AI result : Root Causes
The warping problem of corrugated board, especially when stacked on the floor, can have several potential root causes. Here are some
possible factors that could contribute to the warping issue:
1. Moisture Content: Corrugated board is sensitive to changes in moisture content. If the board is exposed to high humidity or moisture
during storage or in the factory environment, it can absorb moisture unevenly, leading to warping. This is especially true if the top layer
of the stack is more exposed to moisture than the rest.
2. Uneven Stacking Pressure: Uneven pressure distribution during stacking can cause warping. If the corrugated board stacks are not
properly aligned or if there are variations in the weight or pressure applied on different parts of the stack, it can result in uneven
compression and lead to warping.
3. Insufficient Drying Time: The corrugated board might not have had sufficient time to dry completely after the manufacturing process. If
the board is stacked before it has dried completely, residual moisture can cause warping as it evaporates unevenly.
4. Improper Handling: Rough handling or mishandling of the corrugated board during transportation, stacking, or loading can introduce
stress and deformations, resulting in warping. Excessive bending, twisting, or impact during handling can affect the board's structural
integrity.
5. Storage Conditions: Improper storage conditions, such as exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures, or fluctuations in temperature,
can cause the board to expand, contract, or deform, leading to warping.
6. Board Quality: The quality of the corrugated board itself can contribute to warping. If the board was not manufactured to the required
standards, or if there are inconsistencies in the materials used or the bonding process, it can result in reduced dimensional stability and
increased susceptibility to warping.

Additional : Cause vs. Mechanism
The cause of a disease is the virus or bacteria that causes the infection. The mechanism of the disease is the way
in which the virus or bacteria spreads and causes damage to the body.
The cause of a car accident might be a driver's error. The mechanism of the accident is the way in which the
driver's error caused the car to collide with another object.
Cause of the problem: The cause could be the excessive emission of pollutants from vehicles, industrial activities,
or the burning of fossil fuels. These are the underlying factors that contribute to the high pollution levels.
Mechanism of the problem: The mechanism could involve the release of pollutants into the air, their dispersion and
accumulation in the atmosphere, and their interaction with sunlight and other compounds leading to the formation
of smog or harmful particulate matter. Understanding the specific mechanisms at play helps in devising strategies
to mitigate or reduce air pollution effectively.
The mechanism of a problem refers to the processes or actions through which the problem develops or
manifests itself. It focuses on understanding the sequence of events, interactions, or behaviors that lead to the
problem's occurrence or progression.
Additional 1. Example – Cause vs. Mechanism

July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 38
Additional 2.1 AI result : CECA + Related Principles
To identify the defect described in the problem statement, the following physical or chemical principles/theories
should be focused on:
1. Electrochemistry: Understanding the electrochemical processes involved in the plating and interaction of different
metals in the PCB layers can help identify how copper ions from the underlying copper layer are migrating and
depositing on the gold surface.
2. Galvanic Corrosion: Investigating the possibility of galvanic corrosion between the copper layer and the gold layer
is crucial. Galvanic corrosion occurs when two dissimilar metals are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte
(in this case, the PCB layers and the plating solution), leading to the migration of ions from one metal to the
other.
3. Redox Reactions: Examining the redox reactions that occur between the copper and gold layers can provide
insights into the transfer of copper ions onto the gold surface and subsequent copper growth.

July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 92
18. User Prompt : Smart Little People
• [Context] Smart Little People (SLP) This powerful and simple TRIZ Creativity tool can be mastered in a few minutes and is thereafter forever
useful. Smart Little People are imaginary tiny beings who represent the different elements of the problem we are trying to understand and
solve. It works as a mental trick because it is based on empathy, or creating some personal analogy with the problem. Empathy means
becoming the object/problem and looking to see what can be done from its position and viewpoint. If we imagine ourselves becoming so tiny
that we are in the problem area and seeing the problem in great detail then this can be useful and harmful. This is useful for problem
understanding but harmful because may we resist solving a problem if the solution means ourself, as a tiny being, is going to be destroyed,
dissolved in acid, mashed up, dissected, boiled etc. This is overcome by using a crowd/multitude of disposable Smart Little People, for
which we feel no responsibility, based on the premise that ‘A single death is a tragedy – a thousand a statistic.’ Smart Little People works
by modelling the different aspects of the problem (causes and solutions) with different groups of rival or complementary Smart Little People.
They are Smart because they have the ability and insight to create/solve problems and be anywhere, doing anything. Little means they are
as tiny as necessary – molecular level if required. Rival teams of smart little people can be created and some can cause the problem and
others solve it; they do whatever is required even if this means they get destroyed./ [Example] To solve the problem of using a butter knife,
some butter will stick to the knife. Most will answer that they use yarn or use heat to help cut. which still has a part of the butter that is lost
because of the process of cutting the butter If using the SLP technique by imagining yourself becoming a tiny human and landing on the
surface of the blade and questioned whether while cutting butter and the butter will stick to the blade. The function most often answered by
SLP users is to push the butter away from the blade. Latent Function = pushing out was used as a concept to create a blade with ultrasonic
waves that can cut butter without butter sticking to the blade. [Instruction] From the preliminary information, use the SLP technique to solve
the problem. Taking too long to defrost frozen meat The answer contains 1. Finding the Latent Function by Perspective When Transforming
into a Tiny Human that may solve the problem 2. Development of methods or tools to solve problems. In Tabulate format.

July 2023 TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad 93
18. AI result : Smart Little People
Using the Smart Little People (SLP) technique, let's approach the problem of taking too long to defrost frozen meat and try to find the Latent Function by transforming
into a tiny human. We will also develop methods or tools to solve the problem.
Finding the Latent Function by Perspective When Transforming into a Tiny Human: Imagine yourself becoming a tiny human and landing on the surface of the
frozen meat. From this perspective, you observe the problem in great detail and try to empathize with the frozen meat.
Latent Function: The frozen meat wants to thaw evenly and quickly to return to its natural state without any harmful changes.
Development of Methods or Tools to Solve the Problem: Now that we have a better understanding of the frozen meat's perspective and latent function, let's develop
methods or tools to address the issue of taking too long to defrost the meat.
Method 1: Heat Distribution Technique Create a team of rival Smart Little People that represents different sources of heat. Some Smart Little People can emit heat
evenly, while others can direct heat to specific areas. They work together to surround the frozen meat, distributing heat uniformly to facilitate faster thawing without
cooking the meat.
Method 2: Vibration Technique Another team of Smart Little People can be formed, representing tiny beings capable of generating vibrations. These Smart Little
People apply controlled ultrasonic waves to the frozen meat. The vibrations help break down the ice crystals and promote quicker thawing without compromising the
meat's quality.
Method 3: Absorption Technique This team of Smart Little People is tasked with absorbing cold from the frozen meat. They act like molecular-level sponges, drawing
the cold away from the meat and speeding up the thawing process.
Method 4: Thawing Monitoring Technique A group of Smart Little People can be designated as sensors, equipped with the ability to detect the meat's temperature and
internal changes during the thawing process. They provide real-time feedback, allowing adjustments to be made to the thawing methods if necessary.
Method 5: Pre-Processing Technique This method involves preparing the frozen meat for quicker thawing before it is stored. Smart Little People can be assigned to
apply a thin, even layer of a substance (like edible anti-freeze agents) to the meat's surface before freezing. This layer prevents ice crystals from forming tightly,
making it easier and faster to defrost when needed.

[1.1.2] Improving interactions by introducing additives into the objects: The purpose of this solution is to enhance the
interactions between the substances involved in the welding process (Brazing Material and metal) by introducing certain
additives that can improve the fusion and bonding during the welding.
Possible Additives: a. Flux: Adding a flux material can help clean the surfaces of the metal pieces and the Brazing Material
before welding. The flux removes oxides and impurities from the surfaces, allowing for better wetting and bonding of the filler
metal to the base metal.
b. Alloying Elements: Incorporating specific alloying elements into the Brazing Material or metal can improve the metallurgical
properties and bonding characteristics, leading to better fusion and a stronger joint.
c. Precoating: Applying a thin layer of a compatible material on the surfaces of the metal pieces can facilitate the welding
process and promote better bonding during the fusion.
[2.1.2] Synthesis of a Dual Substance-Field System: This solution involves the use of another field to work in conjunction with
the main field (thermal energy) to address the insufficient thermal energy issue and improve the welding process.
Possible Another Field: Electrical Field: By introducing an electrical field in addition to the thermal field, the welding process can
be enhanced. The electrical field can preheat the metal pieces, making them more amenable to fusion when the thermal energy
is applied. Additionally, an electrical field can promote better diffusion of the Brazing Material into the joint, improving bonding.

no residual waste no water waste with good aeration. One of the factors contributing to water
pollution is fish feed. too much food or staying in the water for too long will waste water if we put in
too little food, the fish will grow slowly and not reach the desired weight. While thinking about those
methods, it was realized that there was a similar "problem mechanism" that may be used to solve

TRIZ and Generative AI (Version 2.0) by Tanasak and Santad

Overall, we can conduct research on resource-oriented information to support the process of generating new ideas with the assistance of
Generative AI. The characteristics of utilizing each resource are classified as follows:
• Analysis of resource information systems, such as Function Analysis and CECA.
• Researching different industrial technology systems in terms of resource information, such as FOS.
• Application of resource information tools to aid in generating TRIZ ideas, such as the 40 Principles, Scientific Effect Database, and TESE.
• Analysis of Latent Function, Creative solutions, such as SLP, MFO and MA
It has been discovered that Generative AI technology can be used to help solve initially identified problems, such as significantly reducing
research time. In the past, obtaining data from different industries was challenging.
Generative AI's ability to collect and summarize data has also led to the development of branching tools based on the concept of Function
Oriented Search. For example:
• Problem Oriented Search: enables us to search for similar problems in other industries.
• Root Cause Oriented Search: assists in identifying the root cause of a problem by examining similar or different problems from other
industries.
• Mechanism Oriented Search: helps us find mechanisms for similar problems encountered in other industries, regardless of their differences.
Previously, the problem solver might have had the newly adapted TRIZ instrument in mind but lacked efficient data collection tools. Generative
AI can assist in organizing the display of data, contributing to the increase of information resources that can lead to a variety of ideas.
However, it has been found that generative AI may have limited access to patent information. It might not provide patent details, claims, patent
mapping, or patent summaries like ChatGPT 3.5. However, MS-Bing does offer patent summaries, while Google Bard has the most extensive
patent capabilities, providing partial information on patent details, claims, patent mapping, and patent summaries (based on our testing).

Additionally, it has been observed that ChatGPT 3.5 uses pre-trained data until September 2021, which suggests that its completeness and up-
to-date may be affected. It is important to stay up to date with the latest information.
During the testing, several issues were identified when providing command prompts:
• Lack of introductory information: Focusing solely on obtaining answers in the form of questions for immediate responses (Zero Shot Prompt).
• Incomplete contextualization.
• It is not advisable to assume that the nature of the TRIZ tool is initially known by the Generative AI, as it may affect the accuracy of the
received answers.
In summary, using Generative AI with the TRIZ tool involves a step-by-step process, starting from using the Problem Formulation tool and
gradually moving towards defining the Key Problem, searching for resources, and modifying them. This approach resembles advanced-level
engineering prompts such as Chain of Thought and Tree of Thought.
From the results of utilizing Generative AI to find information resources, we have observed a significant reduction in search time and the ability
to access previously difficult-to-find information.
However, due to the possibility of errors, both in the prompts and the generative AI model itself, the author strongly recommends verifying the
accuracy of the data before utilizing it.
