GUARDIANS OF
THE GALAXY

By Bilal, Youssef, Yassin, and Ismail

INNER PLANETS
The inner planets, also known as terrestrial planets, refer to the rocky planets located closer to the Sun within our solar
system. There are four inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are primarily composed of rock
and metal and have solid surfaces. They are smaller in size compared to the outer gas giants and have higher densities.
OORT CLOUDS
The Oort Cloud is a predicted collection of icy objects that are more distant than anything else
in the Solar System.
ASTEROID BELT
The asteroid belt is a region of space between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter where most of the asteroids in our Solar
System are found orbiting the Sun. The Asteroid Belt probably formed when a large object (like a planet) collided with
another large object and broke apart into millions of pieces.
OUTER PLANETS
The four outer planets—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—are gas giants. They formed in a particularly cold
region of the solar system, farther away from the sun.
SATELLITES
A satellite is an object that orbits a larger object. Earth is a satellite because it orbits
around the sun. The moon is a satellite because it orbits around Earth. Earth and the moon
are called “natural” satellites. But usually when someone says “satellite,” they are talking
about a “man-made” satellite.
STARS
Stars are huge, glowing balls of gases. The closest star to Earth is the Sun. Most of
the pinpricks of light that shine in the night sky are also stars. Countless more stars
are too far from Earth to be seen without a telescope.
PLANETOIDS
They are small, rocky bodies that orbit, or travel around, the sun. They are also called minor
planets or planetoids. In general, they are materials left over from when the planets formed.
COMETS
A comet is a small, icy object that orbits the sun and has a long "tail" of gas. Some
comets can be seen from Earth every few years, while others pass by once in a person's
lifetime. Comets are made of ice, dust, and tiny pieces of rock, but to people on Earth,
they look like streaks or smudges across the night sky.
ROCKY PLANETS

The four rocky planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. They are the closest four
planets to the Sun. They are made of rocks and metals. They are also known to be the inner
planets.
GAS GIANTS
A gas giant is a large planet mostly composed of helium and/or hydrogen. These
planets, like Jupiter and Saturn in our solar system, don't have hard surfaces and
instead have swirling gases above a solid core.
SATELLITES:
MOONS
Moons (also called natural satellites) come in many shapes, sizes and types. They are
generally solid bodies, and few have atmospheres. Most planetary moons probably
formed out the discs of gas and dust circulating around planets in the early solar system.
