NEONATAL NP ( NNP)
• Birth to age of 2 yrs.

• Management of both acute and chronic illness.

• Setting : neonatal ICU, transport, out patient clinic, academic and private settings.

• Function – nurse leader, clinical expert, education, researcher etc.

• A minimum of 1yr of acute care nursing is required for admission.

• Graduates – eligible to sit for national nurse practitioner certification examination.


DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE
• (DNP)
practice doctorate = dentist, physician, clinical psychologist.

• 3-4 years beyond BSc nursing degree.

• DNP - Meet demands for nurse leaders.

• Provide leadership in nursing practice.

NP IN INDIA
 In the National Health Policy, 2015- reshaping health systems in all dimensions of health.

 The Indian Nursing Council has initiated the ‘Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care Program’ (NPCC),
the first postgraduate nursing residency program in India.

 It was approved by the Government of India

 launched by the Health Minister and it is announced on the INC website in the year 2017.
Competencies of Nurse Practitioner in
Critical Care
a) Patient selection/admission into ICU and discharge

b) Problem identification through appropriate assessment

c) Selection/administration of medication or devices or therapies

d) Patients’ education for use of therapeutics

e) Knowledge of interactions of therapeutics, if any

f) Evaluation of outcomes and

g) Recognition and management of complications and untoward reactions.


Aim
The critical care NP program prepares registered BSc nurses for advanced practice roles
as clinical experts, managers, educators and consultants leading to M.Sc degree in
critical care NP
OBJECTIVES

• provide competent care and appropriate family care in tertiary care centres

• demonstrate clinical competence

• apply theoretical, patho-physiological and pharmacological principles and evidence


base in implementing therapies

• identify the critical condition

• Collaborate with other health care professionals


Standards/Requirements to start the NP program
• The teaching institution must accept the accountability for the NP program

• program congruent with the INC standards.

• parent tertiary care centre with a minimum of 500 beds

• above having Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Cardio/thoracic ICU and


Emergency care unit with a minimum of 10 beds and above in each ICU,

• to a total of 40-50 ICU beds in the hospital.


Program Description
• Residency program

• Main focus on Competency based training.

• The duration - two years

• curriculum - theory that includes core courses, advanced practice courses and clinical courses besides
clinical practicum which is a major component.

salary structure of the hospital where the course is

● It is the university highest level supervised research degree.

● essential to prepare nurse scholars to improve the quality of nursing


education and practice in India.

● National consortium for Ph.D in Nursing (Ph.D Consortium) has been


constituted by INC in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of
Health Sciences and W.H.O., under the Faculty of Nursing to promote
doctoral education in various fields of Nursing.
Purpose

Doctoral education is to prepare nurse scholars who will contribute both to the
development and application of knowledge in nursing for enhancing quality of
nursing education, research, practice and dissemination of nursing knowledge
Objectives
• Conduct research relevant to nursing

• Develop nursing theories and nursing science

• Synthesize knowledge from nursing and other allied sciences to develop and test theory
that affects health status.

• Demonstrate the leadership skills in nursing practice, education and research.

• Disseminate the results of theory development and research


Eligibility
1. MPhil/ MSc(N) or a PG degree in nursing recognized by INC , for enrolment for
Ph.D.in nursing (part time) under faculty of nursing RGUHS.

2. The candidates should have passed MSc.(N) with a minimum of 55% marks.

3. Should have research background (May or may not published articles in


journals.)
Selection criteria

I. Merit in entrance exam (85 marks)

II. Candidates obtaining MPhil in nursing (5marks)

III. Publications(5marks)

IV. institutions (5marks)

V. • Selection will be made by Ph.D. consortium and the decision of the consortium will be final

These centres will be connected by Video conferencing facilities. MOU has been signed between INC,
WHO and RGUHS
Duration
 minimum period of 3 years from the date of provisional registration

 A full time candidate is one who is not employed or who is on study leave/ deputation and pursuing
PhD.

 Work full time and will not seek any employment during study period

 A part time candidate is one who is employed and does PhD. Work in addition to the existing duties
and responsibilities.

 A full time/ part time candidate should complete research work and submit the thesis to the
university within 3 years

 part time candidate, maximum period for submission of thesis will be 4 years from the date of
provisional registration
Board of research studies
• Dean and head of departments concerned

• Principals/ heads of medical institutions recognized for PG medical studies.

• Two members nominated by the academic councils.

• Three persons nominated by the medical faculty (for their special knowledge in the medical sciences)

• The co-opted or nominate members shall hold office for a period of 2 years. Each board shall be elect a
chairman from among its own members who shall hold office for a period of 2 years.
Calendar of Events
• Provisional registration- 1st July every year

• Submission of half yearly progress report- 15th July every year/15 Jan every year

• No two half yearly progress report should be submitted simultaneously

• Conduction of the pre-Phd examination after the approval of 1st and 2nd half
yearly progress reports and completion of one year from the date of provisional registration

• Exact date of the examination will be notified by the university

• Confirmation of registration after successfully completion of pre-Ph.D examination

• Submission of ethical clearance certificate within one year after provisional registration
Calendar of Events
• Submission of final synopsis of research work leading to Ph.D degree after approval of all half yearly
reports and on permission to submit the synopsis of Ph.D registration committee.

• Submission of Ph.D Thesis along with the application within 6 months after the approval of the final
synopsis and permission to be sought by Phd registration committee to submit the thesis.

• Final viva-voce examination after the acceptance and approval of Ph.D thesis by the examiners (date
to be notified by the University)

• Ethical clearance from the institution should be obtained from where data is being collected

• Viva-voce to be conducted in the study centers


Examination
Conduct of pre-ph.d examination will be at the respective study centers.

● A study center which has the videoconferencing facility shall be center for presentation of
seminar, term paper and viva-voce examination.

● A candidate has to come to the nearest study center to his/her place.

● A guide has to come to the nearest study center to his/her place.

● Scope of changing the topic is there within one year.

● Implication to nursing to be incorporated in the topic selected by the candidate.
