CONFIGURATION OF ZEN

SYSTEM
Zen is configured using settings in its database
engines and clients. You can set configuration
properties in Zen Control Center (ZenCC) or at a
command prompt. In ZenCC, the configuration
settings are properties of the engine or client..
Overview and Key Feature Summary
 A browser-based interface for displaying data
from one or more ZEN components
simultaneously on the screen.
 User-definable alerts
 An enhanced MVS System Log, optionally
filtered, with paging, searching and command
input .
 Network Logging support in which ZEN can be
configured to write messages, with message
prefix filtering applied, to as many Network
Logs as you require
………………
 With the optional Automation Feature, the
following additional facilities are available:
 • Timer, message and alert driven commands.
 A set of tools to provide functions such as Ping(ping
is a computer network administration software
utility used to test the reachability of a host on an
Internet Protocol (IP) network. It is available for
virtually all operating systems that have networking
capability, including most embedded network
administration software. Ping. Linux version of
ping.), Trace Route and NS Lookup.
Installation and Configuration
 The installation of ZEN and any ZEN
components is quick and easy and is for the
most part an automated process. It is described
in the manual “Installing and Maintaining ZEN
and ZEN Components”.
ZEN Core Functions
 ZEN provides some core functions which are
available even when no other ZEN components
are active. Among its primary functions are the
Presentation Manager which manages the ZEN
Desktop, the Domain Server.
 Alert Management, system log.
…………
 ZEN’s Alert Management handles everything concerned
with the routing, control, archiving and administration
of alerts from all of the WDS wireless distribution
system) Network Management components that are
running under ZEN. Although alerts are generated by
the appropriate ZEN component, for example an
EE(mobile network opertor) connection failure alert will
be generated by the ZEN EE MONITOR whereas an FTP
PUT failure alert will be generated by ZEN FTP
CONTROL, the routing and archiving of the alert is
handled centrally by ZEN. This means that any alert
automation you may have set up can be applied globally
to all ZEN components if required.
New Features
 The initial ZEN interface panel or ‘ZEN Desktop’ has
been enhanced in this new version, providing diagrams
of your ZEN network, your ZEN components, as well
as other diagrams generated by your ZEN components
such as an APPN CP(Advanced Peer-to-Peer
Networking (APPN) is part of an IBM Systems
Network Architecture (SNA). It involves protocols for
allowing computers to communicate between
themselves, rather than being dominated by a central
server or other hardware piece ,control point) network
diagram or a diagram of the EE connections in the
network, both provided by the EE MONITOR.
………….
 However, ZEN Automation is the primary new
enhancement in this version of ZEN and
comprises:
• Automated Message Commands
• Automated Timer Commands
• Alert-driven commands
New Commands and Functions
 This PTF(Program temporary fix ) contains new
commands INCIDENT, ALIAS and AUTOMATION
and as detailed in the sections below. INCIDENT
Command A new command, INCIDENT, has been
introduced that enables you to process and manage
ZEN incidents and as always can be issued from the
Command Facility panel or System Log but more.
With the INCIDENT command you can:
• Open a new incident
• Close an incident
• Update an existing incident
The Incident Commander
 The Incident Commander (IC) is responsible
for the overall management of the incident and
determines which Command or General Staff
positions to staff in order to maintain a
manageable span of control(Span of control or
span of management is the number of
subordinates who report directly to a manager
or leader) and ensure appropriate attention to
the necessary incident management functions.
…………
 ALIAS Command and Function This PTF
introduces a new ‘Alias’ function into ZEN.
Aliases are used for simple text string
substitution and enable you, for example, to
substitute friendly names for system names or
identifiers. This can be done both for
substituting non-meaningful names for
meaningful names for display purposes, for
example after parsing an incoming message.
