Argumentative text
An argumentative essay is an essay that uses evidence
and facts to support the claim it’s making. Its purpose
is to persuade the reader to agree with the argument
being made.

A good argumentative essay will use facts and evidence

to support the argument, rather than just the author’s
thoughts and opinions. (Sarikas 2019)
Two Formats of Arguementative Essay

The Toulmin model

It begins with an introduction, follows with a

thesis/claim, and gives data and evidence to
support that claim. This style of essay also
includes rebuttals of counter arguments.
Two Formats of Arguementative Essay

The Rogerian model

It analyzes two sides of an argument and

reaches a conclusion after weighing the
strengths and weaknesses of each.

IN-TEXT CITATION

In-text citation is a reference made within the body of text of an

academic essay. The in-text citation alerts the reader to a source
that has informed your own writing. The exact format of an in-
text citation will depend on the style you need to use.

The American Psychological Association (APA) in-text citation style

uses the author’s last name and the year of publication, for
example: (Field, 2005).
