to Quality Nursing care.

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, effective nurse management is identified as the utmost


importance to hospitals and health systems. Having a nurse manager who
had an understanding of their own leadership style is identified to have a
higher chance of being successful in handling their team and staff,
eventually achieving a better patient care (Cornell, 2020). According to
Cornell,2020 the success of the unit relies on the nursing leader strength and
capabilities, and nursing leaders should understand the different types of
leadership styles in nursing management. Once a nurse manager had an
understanding of the leadership styles in healthcare is recognized, nursing
leaders can take an assessment of how they choose into current styles, while
also evaluates which styles, they might use to be more successful in the
upcoming days.
INTRODUCTION

It is said that Leadership styles of nurse leader and quality of


nursing care are connected and associated with each other.
Effective leadership in nursing healthcare especially in City Health
Centers and Government facility is one of the key areas focus by
Department of Health (DOH) and Government City of Davao. To
achieve quality nursing care, is by having a strong leadership skill
from Nursing Administrators. Then again, the organization’s
leadership asset was also associated on the leadership style
implemented by the organization.
INTRODUCTION

The researcher experienced and observed in Health centers a long


queue of client lines, a lack of payment facilities, and staff lack of
training especially in customer service. By conducting the study, the
output will oversee the situation in every health center and will
likely solve these identified issues. Hence, it is imperative that
research will be conducted to evaluate the relation between the
leadership style and quality nursing care of CHO staff.
INTRODUCTION

The City Health Office is one of the agencies under the Local Government Unit of
Davao City. It is in charge in making health services accessible, available,
acceptable, and affordable to all the Davaoeños. It is a government mandate that
ensures every Filipino shall receive affordable and quality health benefits. This
involves providing adequate resources – health human resources, health facilities,
and health financing. The City Health Office was created through RA 9160 or the
Local Government Code of 1991 where health services are devolved to the 4
LGUs. City Health Office was established because health is a right of every
Filipino citizen and the State is duty-bound to ensure that all people have
equitable access to effective health care services at all levels.
OBJECTIVES

At the end of the first semester, I will be able to;


• Finalize my research title.
• Identify methods for the research paper
• Finalize my manuscript, chapter 1-3.

At the end of the research, I will be able to;


• Determine the Leadership styles applied by Nurse administrators in
Davao City health centers.
• Determine the impact of nurse administrators’ leadership styles on
quality nursing care.
• Identify factors affecting the leadership styles applied.
• Identify factors affecting quality of nursing care in health centers.
• Acquire relevant information that can be used by nurses in the
future.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to determine the Davao City Health Centers Nurse Administrators.
Leadership styles to Quality Nursing care.
Specifically, this study will attempt to seek answers to the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the Nurse Administrators and Staff Nurses in terms of:
a) Age
b) Gender
c) Civil Status
d) Position
e) Highest Education Attainment and
f) Length of service

2. What are the leadership styles practice by Nurse Administrators?


a) Authoritarian leadership (autocratic)
b) Participative leadership (democratic)
c) Delegative leadership (laissez-faire)
d) Transactional leadership (managerial)
e) Transformational leadership (visionary)

4. Is there a significant relationship between leadership styles of
nurse administrators and staff nurses’ quality of nursing care?
5. Is there a significant relationship between the nurses’ quality of
nursing care and their profile?
METHODOLOGY

In order to answer the research question, the researcher will be


using a multi method research. This will entail the researcher in
application of two or more sources of data or research methods to
the investigation of a research question. A Triangulated designs will
be use, which - both qualitative and quantitative methods to get the
necessary data. The researcher will use a survey questionnaire,
conduct interviews and area observation to get a complete picture
of the City Health Centers administrators &; leadership styles and
staff’s quality nursing care.
