• Simile is used to compares 2 things with using
like or as.
• E.g. You were as brave as a lion.
• They fought like cats and dogs.
• Your explanation is as clear as mud.
• Watching the show was like watching grass
grow.
Onomatopoeia
• A word that sounds like the word it is
describing.
• E.g. Boom!
• Buzz

• Bang
Personification
• Personification is when you give an animal or
object qualities or abilities that only a human
can have.
• E.g. Lightning danced across the sky.
• The wind howled in the night.
• Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her
name.
• My alarm clock yells at me to get out of bed
every morning.
Alliteration
• Alliteration is when we use words close
together that have the same sounds.
• E.g. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled
peppers.
• A good cook could cook as much cookies as a
good cook who could cook cookies.

Hyperbole
• Hyperbole is an exaggeration or making
something bigger/worse than it is.
• E.g. I have told you a million times.
