NUTRI-CHICK : ENHANCING THE NUTRITIONAL

VALUE OF THE CHICKEN BY ADDING NUTRIENTS

AND VITAMINS FROM VEGETABLES
Proposed by: Mark Christian G. Mirandilla
SCIENTIFIC / THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

Chicken is a nutritional powerhouse, containing a variety of essential nutrients necessary for

good health. It is well-known for its hig function high-quality protein content, which is essential for
muscle growth, repair, and overall body. Furthermore, chicken contains a variety of vitamins,
including B vitamins such as B6, B12, and niacin, which are important for energy metabolism and
nervous system health. ( WebMD, 2020 ).

Vegetables contain essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which provide numerous
health benefits to your body. Carrots, for example, are well-known for their high vitamin A content,
which is important for eye health as you age. It contain a high concentration of folate, a B vitamin
that aids in the production of new red blood cells. Folate is particularly beneficial to children's health
and may lower the risk of cancer and depression. ( WebMD, 2020 ).

Genetically Modified Chicken combined with the nutrients and vitamins from vegetables will
be beneficial to the community especially to the children to take a food with a presence of different
nutrients and vitamins from different foods.
Knowledge Gap

Through this selective breeding process, the majority of modern chickens have been
genetically modified (GM) to maximize particular traits. There have been rarer reports of chickens
being genetically altered in labs through gene editing and other methods to achieve the desired
results faster. Because of years of genetic modification intended to increase profits at the expense
of welfare, the chickens kept in factory farms frequently become victims of their own biology.
Genetic modification has caused broiler chickens, or those raised to be killed and their bodies
processed into meat, to grow up to several times faster than they did in 1925. Nowadays, chickens
attain a weight of over twice that of their predecessors in nearly half the time. Their wellbeing and
health will suffer greatly as a result of this. ( VFC, 2022).
There is a dearth of knowledge regarding the long-term safety, effectiveness, health effects,
and environmental effects of consuming genetically modified chicken, despite the current study's
findings.
Main Research Question

This study will seek answer to the following questions:

1. What kind of genetic engineering can be applied to chicken to increase its nutritional value by
incorporating the vitamins and nutrients found in veggies?

2. Determine the effectivity of the NUTRI-CHICK in terms of:

a.Safety
b.Health Impact

3. What are the difference between Non-Genetically Modified and Genetically Modified Chicken in
terms of:
a. Nutrients
b. Vitamins
c. Benefits
Research Design, Methodology and Materials

In order to create a new species with desirable and distinctive features connected to the
nutrients and vitamins from vegetables, the researcher will modify the chicken and manipulate its
gene through the use of the method microinjection. The following supplies are needed to perform
the experiment on changing the chicken: vegetables, an egg, lab equipment, and instruments for
modifying the chicken. This procedure will assist researchers or genetic engineers in ensuring
the effectiveness of enhancing the nutritional value of the chicken by adding the nutrients and
vitamins of the vegetables.
