KANYE WEST

Kanye Omari West also known as Ye or Yeezy or

Yeezus is an American rapper, singer, producer,
songwriter & fashion designer,born June 8th, 1997 in
Atlanta, Georgia & raised in Chicago, Illinois.

Early in his life, Ye began showing interest in arts by

writing poems at the age of 5. In third grade Kanye
had already started writing raps & by seventh grade he
was composing songs.

After finishing high school, Yeezus went to the

Chicago State University to study english but dropped
out shortly after to persue his musical career

At the beginning of his career he was producing songs

for Chicago local acts, and spent summers locked in
making beats and practicing his skills and according
to him, he recreated every Hip-Hop classic beat.
West then went to New York in a fearless chase for his
dreams with determination and giving up wasn’t a choice

In New York a lot of rappers were working with him and

using his beats but still Ye was unsatisfied since they
continuously failed to take him seriously as a rapper & not
giving him production credits on songs( using him as a
ghost producer).

So he recorded a demo tape & started handing it to every

record label trying to get a record deal. Kanye looked and
looked but was still being turned down as the labels only
wanted him as a producer
It’s really incredible how Kanye was
making this amazing music in such
short period of time, but what’s even
more impressive is that he was also
producing songs and albums for
other hip hop & r&b artists, from
producing r&b songs for Alicia Keys,
Beyonce & Janet Jackson to
producing & curating rapper
Common’s whole “Be” album, Ye’s
run was nothing short of amazing
In 2007 Yeezy dropped his
“Graduation” album, and although he
was already a gery famous rapper,
this projects was the one that gave
him the Superstar & Stadium Status.
With this project, Ye switched his
sound a lil bit, comming from “
College Dropout & Late
Registration”, albums with a
“Soulful & Jazzy sound” Kanye
wanted to create a new thing, so in
with this record we got songs like “
Can’t Tell Me Nothing & Flashing
Lights”, songs that were different
from his previous work.
But for Kanye’s luck,
rapper Jay Z used some
of his beats and was
impressed by his work,
so he wanted to work
more with him, and
that’s when became
close with him & got a
chance to sign with
JAY-Z & Dame Dash’s
Roc-A-Fella records
thanks to Dame.
After that, Kanye’s
career started to flourish
as he started producing
for the best rappers in
the game like, JAY-Z ,
Nas, Mos Def, Beanie
Sigel etc.
But the year of 2007 wasn’t all about success for Kanye. Unfortunately in November of that
year, he would lose his mother, Donda West. Kanye had a very close relationship woth his
mom, she was like his best friend, and he even made a song dedicated to her called “ Hey
Mama” , so when his mother passed, it affected him him a lot. Kanye had already shown
signs of mental issues before,but was never seen as a major problem, however, with the
passing of his mom, things got rough, his mental health deteriorated, he started to abuse
alcohol & saw himself on a down spiral. Months after his beloved mother died and breaking
his engagement, Kanye was depressed and out of control. These tragic events in his life lead
him to record his 4th studio album, “808’s & Heartbreak”. This album was ground breaking,
totally different sound, he was grieving, talking about his feelings, loneliness and a lot of auto
tune. Critics did not receive this album well, but the level of Influence this album has on this
generation of rappers is undeniable. This album is not a traditional hip hop album but that
didn’t stop me from enjoying it, the vulnerability & honesty he showed on it really opened
new doors for hip hop, giving rappers inspiration to rap about deeper things. He influenced a
whole new generation of rappers, like Travis Scott, Juice Wrld, Drake, Don Toliver & others,
who took inspiration from this album to sing hooks on record instead of just rapping

In 2010, Ye dropped his comeback album, after being cancelled
for saying Taylor Swift didn’t deserve to win an award because
it belonged to Beyonce. The people were furious with him, but
it was until he realest the album” My Beautiful Twisted
Fantasy”, and what a comeback, the album was amazing, with
astonishing production & jaw dropping verses from guest
features. The album had great performances by rappers such as,
Nicki Minaj, Raekwon, Rihanna, Kid Cudi and others, but in
my opinion who stood out the most were rappers Rick Ross &
Pusha T, with all time classic verses.

After that, Kanye kept being controversial and inovating at the

same time, he designed shoes, called him self Jesus and did all
kinds of crazy things, and even though I do not condone his
opinions, I still am a fan of his music, and consider him to be one
of the greatest to eber do it. Kanye might have not been the best
person, but he will for sure, go down as one of the greatest and I
will continue to cherish his body of work. And even after all of his
controversies, he has worked with damn near everybody int he
music industry, he has worked with the likes of: Beyonce,Jay z,
Nas, DMX, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne,
Drake, Pusha T & many others.
