music, his mother with great effort gave him a
Boom-box for his birthday, with this he further
strengthened his taste for music. He began to
improvise, write lyrics, and follow the music of
popular artists of the time.
The reason why he adopted the nickname Jay Z is
because in his neighborhood, Carter was affectionately
called "Jazzy". Simultaneously he began to participate
in several battles with rapper LL Cool J, this with the
intention of being heard by talent scouts and getting a
record deal. He then made an appearance on a popular
Big L song called Da Graveyard and also on Mic
Geronimo's Time to Build, which also featured first
appearances by DMX and Ja Rule.
He became known for his deft use of metaphor, his
freestyle abilities, his ability to create a play on words,
and his combination of street and commercial hip hop.
In 1995 he achieved his important success in the
underworld circuits with In My Lifetime in which his
great friend puffy Combs collaborated.
Motivated by Jaz, Jay Z decided to found a record
company in 1996: Roc-A-Fella Records, with the
association of businessman Damon Dash and Kareem

the album, his biggest feature was on the song
Renegade. The success was such that they reissued it
in a single-disc version, The Blueprint 2.1, which
stored half the tracks of the original. In 1999, with his
