Licensed to ill, was produced by a white group blending rock and rap, giving them the first number one album in hip-hop history.
a rock classic (Quote, allmusic) cajoling rhymes, filled with clear parodies and absurdities, it's hard to imagine the offense that some took at the time. There hasn't been a funnier, more infectious record in pop music than this (quote, allmusic) The song that

helped carry them to the top was "Fight for Your Right (To Party)," which became a frat-boy anthem of sorts.(biography.com)

went quadruple platinum selling more the 4 million albums as it transformed the face of hip-hop. Nobody could have predicted the impact the Beasties would make, turning white America and the rest of the world on to rap music and jacking up the sales of baseball caps and heavy-duty car speakers. (the guardian.com)

led to the band leaving def jam records because both the label and the band thought they were the larger part of the albums success. Has since been sued for sampling issues. Was the one of the first albums alongside run dmc to infuse rock with rap. Was the first hip hop album that used parodies, jokes and mocking stereotypes. Was a large part to the bands initial rise to fame. Was recorded while on tour with run-dmc.
The success of "Fight for Your Right" led to the trio headlining their own tour, which was plagued by lawsuits, arrests, blame for violence and vandalism, and accusations of sexism and obscenity.(rollingstones.com)
