Objectives:

• To assess the level of knowledge of general population regarding

organ donation.
• To find out the association between the level of knowledge of general
population towards organ donation with selected demographic
variables.
Review Of Literature:
• 1. A study done in Ernakulam district among 100 subjects, 55% had average
knowledge, 38% had good knowledge and only 7% had poor knowledge regarding
organ donation. There was a significant association between the level of knowledge
of general population regarding organ donation with selected demographic
variables.(Anu Jacob kachappillil et al., 2020)
• 2.A descriptive cross sectional study done among 100 participants in Thrissur,
kerala state. Overall 97% of study participants knew something about organ
donation and 97% of people expressed support for organ donation. This study
highlights the significance of increasing public knowledge to remove barriers and
disbeliefs that keep people from volunteering for organ donation.(Neetu Jose,
Jayesh K Joseph, Sheeja Sebastian et al., 2020)
Review Of Literature:
• 3. A cross sectional study was done in a population of 225 patients attending the
OPD of a primary health center Kannur district of north Kerala . Study found that
69.3% had positive attitude towards organ donation, amongst which 16.1% had
expressed strong motivation to donate irrespective of the circumstances.
• 64% considered the possibility of misappropriation of their donated organs. 94%
of respondents would authorize consent of donation of a diseased person organ to
either his/her family or spouse.
• Study has proved that even though most of the people aware about organ
donation, the willingness to donate organs is low. Socio demographic, emotional
factors & laws to ensure appropriate use of donated organs influence the public
willingness to donate.(Nisanth Prabhakaran, Nishitha et al.,2021)
