Organizational Culture
This refers to the beliefs, behaviors,
and values that make up the unique
social and psychological environment
of an organization. It significantly
affects how employees communicate
within the organization. A positive
culture can encourage open, honest
communication, while a negative
culture might lead to misinformation
and distrust.
How Whistleblowing Affect Organizational
Culture
Perception of Leadership and Management :
Employees perception of leadership is significantly impact by whistleblowing incident. If leadership
is perceived as ethical and responsive morale can be maintained or even improved. However,
perceptions of dishonesty or incompetence can severely damage morale.
Revising Policies and Procedures:
In response to whistleblowing, companies frequently revise their policies, especially
those related to ethics and reporting mechanisms. This can lead to a culture where rules
and regulations are taken more seriously, and there's a greater emphasis on compliance.
Impact on Trust and Collaboration:
A whistleblowing incident can either erode or strengthen trust within an organization,
depending on how it's handled. If employees feel the issue is addressed fairly and
transparently, it can enhance trust. However, if they feel there’s retaliation or cover-up,
trust can deteriorate, affecting collaborative efforts and open communication.
Employee Morale
This is a measure of how happy or
content employees are within their
job and work environment. High
employee morale often leads to
positive attitudes and improved
communication, as employees feel
more engaged and motivated to
contribute. Low morale can lead to a
breakdown in communication,
reduced productivity, and increased
turnover.
