Stopping

Procrastination and
getting work done
Procrastination

 Rescheduling an activity or a group of

activities for a later time.
 Trouble persuading yourself to do the things
you should do or would like to do
 Often mistaken for laziness
Procrastination as Resistance

See procrastination for what it really is

= Resistance
The thing keeping you from doing your
work and believing you still have
enough time to do it
There is always that resistance, that
you want to get your work done but,
for some reason you avoid it by all
costs.
Why do People Procrastinate ?

Many claim they “do better” when they

procrastinate and “work best” under
pressure
But…
-Is this really true?
-Have they always managed to
complete and had the chance to review
their work thoroughly before the
deadline?
Time robbers

There are a number of things that waste our

time. Some are imposed on us and others
are inflicted.

Are you robbing yourself of time? This might

sound crazy but we all do.

Self-inflicted time robbers

• Personal disorganisation

Tips to overcoming procrastination

• Awareness – Reflect on the reasons why you

procrastinate.
• Assess - find out what feelings lead you to
procrastinate, then deal with them accordingly.
• Outlook – change your perspective, break down your
project into smaller tasks to avoid intimidation.
• Commit – create a to-do list or time management
plan; start with the smallest task and gradually move
to the bigger task. Reward yourself for the work
done.
• Surroundings – choose wisely the area you wish to
work in or who you want to work with, avoid your
bed by all means!
Tips to overcome Procrastination Continued...

• Goals – focus on what you want to do, not what you

want to ovoid. Set positive, concrete, meaningful
learning and achievement goals for yourself.
• Be Realistic – achieving goals and changing habits
takes time and effort, do not sabotage yourself by
setting unrealistic expectations you cannot meet.
• Self- talk – notice how you speak to yourself, instead
of saying “I wish I hadn’t I will...” say “I will...”
• Stay motivated – stay actively engaged in your
classes and work .
...But once you start, you wont stop (as
Newton taught us!) Prepare for the
work and ACTUALLY DO THE WORK.

All the Best!!!
