Types of test scoring
A.
Objectively : formats specify tasks that lend
themselves to a simple, single response or a set of
responses that might be viewed in a checklist. As
the responses are constrained, the correct
responses are easily recognized. The CROS formats
are a low-cost alternative to CRSS item formats
due to the cost of subjective scoring.
B.
Subjectively : CRSS item responses require subjective
scoring because the nature of the trait being tested is
judged to exist in degrees. We use the terms rubric,
scoring guide, and descriptive rating scale interchangeably.
As noted previously, the rating scale is typically known as a
rubric. In addition, within some formats, like
demonstration, observation, performance, and the
portfolio, we have many forms of responses and
performances can be as unique as the individual being
tested. Our focus will be on the types of tasks that more
frequently occur in on-demand, large-scale testing
programs.
