Muhammad Yunus
• He is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist and
civil society leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts
of microcredit and microfinance. These loans are given to
entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans.
Yunus and the Grameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize "for their efforts through microcredit to create
economic and social development from below"
Varghese Kurien
• He is known as the "Father of the White Revolution" in India,
was a social entrepreneur whose "billion-litre idea", Operation
Flood, made dairy farming India's largest self-sustaining
industry and the largest rural employment sector providing a
third of all rural income. It made India the world's largest milk
producer, doubled the milk available for each person, and
increased milk output four-fold in 30 years
Amul
• Amul is an acronym of the Indian cooperative society
named Gujarat Milk Marketing Federation based in Anand,
Gujarat. It is under the ownership of Gujarat Cooperative Milk
Marketing Federation Limited, Department of
Cooperation, Government of Gujarat. It is controlled by 3.6
million milk producers.
• Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel founded the organisation in 1946
and served as its chairman until his retirement in the 1970s. He
hired Verghese Kurien in 1949, initially as the general
manager, where Kurien guided the technical and marketing
efforts of the cooperative. Kurien briefly became the chairman
of Amul following Patel's death in 1994, and is credited with
the success of Amul's marketing.
Arunachalam Muruganantham

He is Known as the "Padman of India," Muruganantham


invented a low-cost sanitary pad-making machine. He
established Jayaashree Industries to manufacture and distribute
affordable sanitary pads, improving menstrual hygiene for
women in rural areas.
Lakshmi N Menon
• She is not just an entrepreneur who has climbed the stairs of
success, becoming a role model for young women who aspires
to become businesswomen. She is also a social worker who
deserves the credit for reviving a unique cultural heritage after
Kerala was ravaged by the deluge of 2018. With The iconic
‘Chekkutty’ dolls that was born in the flood-ravaged weavers’
village of Chendamangalam travelled all the way to the United
Nations to spread the message of love and compassion. The
‘Chekkutty’ dolls that were made from the damaged handloom
fabric from Chendamangalam were sold for Rs. 25 in India and
for a higher price abroad. The amount that was collected like
this was distributed among the weavers who had lost
everything in the flood.
Vandana Shiva
Shiva is an environmental activist and founder of Navdanya, a
network of seed banks and organic farms promoting biodiversity
and sustainable agriculture. She has been a vocal advocate for
farmers' rights and the protection of indigenous knowledge.
