WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY
DANCE?
CONTEMPORARY DANCE is a dance performance genre that developed during the
mid-20th century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for
formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the
U.S. and Europe.

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several


dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.

• It stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of


ballet.
• Can be performed to many different styles of music and often done in bare feet.

WHAT IS CHEER DANCE?
Cheer dance is coined from the words, cheer & dance.
• To cheer is to shout out words or phrases that may help
motivate & boost the morale of a playing team & perform
better during a game.
• Dance, on the other hand, is a physical activity where one
expresses emotions or gestures while performing bodily
movements usually in time with rhythm.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
CHEERLEADING AND CHEERDANCE?
Cheerleading is the performance of a routine, usually dominated by gymnastic skills
such as jumps, tumbling skills, lifts and tosses combined with shouting of cheers and
yells to lead the crowd to cheer for a certain team during a game or sport. It originated
in the United States.
