LESSON OBJECTIVES

• At the end of the lesson, I should be able to:


• 1. State the different ways of starting races
• 2. List the types of crouch start
• 3. Give the commands of sprint races
STARTING RACES IN ATHLETICS EVENTS

• The ways of starting races in athletic events include:


• 1. Standing start: This is the type of start used in
kindergarten,
middle distance races and long distance races. Examples include:
50m dash, 3000m dash, cross- country races, etc.
2. BACK LYING START

• This is practiced mostly in nursery and primary


schools when taking part in events such as sack
race, catch the train, egg and spoon race, etc.
CROUCH START
• This is adopted in sprint races such as 100m dash, 200m
dash, 400m dash, relay races
• Types of crouch start
• There are three types of crouch start, these are:
• 1. Bunch or bullet start
• 2. Medium start
• 3. Elongated start
INDEPENDENT TASK

• Write short note on the following:


• 1. Bunch start
• 2. Medium start
• 3. Elongated start
COMMANDS OF SPRINT RACES

• Before the commencement of a race, athletes stay behind


the scratch line to receive the commands. There are three
commands of sprint races, these are:
• 1. On your marks
• 2. Set
• 3. Go
