Electrical SMP
SMP (Safety Management Plan):-

DGMS Circular no 03, of 2019.

Objective-The Safety Management
System established by a mine must ensure all risks
are identified and critical risks are controlled to
ensure long-term health and safety. A Safety
Management System should set the culture,
framework and actions necessary to ensure that
mining operations are carried out safely.
SMP Stages:-

1. Analysis and assessment of risk/ hazards.

2. Hazard Analysis and Risk Ranking.
3. Control Measures.
4. Auditing.
1. Analysis and assessment of risk/ hazards.

Assessment team:- (1) Mines Manager

(2) Electrical Engineer
(3) Safety Officer
(4) Workman Inspector
(5) Supervisor
2. Hazard Analysis and Risk Ranking:-

3. Control Measures
After assessing the hazard/ risk at the work place and ranking it to
identify the critical hazard, the next step was to asses/initiate the
control measure aiming for complete elimination of critical
hazard
In this process the emphasis to be given on both:
(1) First to look the present control system and
(2) Secondly to apply for additional control mechanism and
accordingly the control plan work sheets to be prepared for
immediate control mechanism.
(3)In this process due consideration shall be given to identify the
source of potential risk and the present control mechanism.
(4) Decide the responsible person
(5) Decide the time frame to mitigate the risk
4. Auditing
 To exercise the proper control and effective implementation of control measures
so as to eliminate the critical risk hazard;
A. a system of regular auditing and reviewing of the risk ranking/ risk rating has been
developed and accordingly the team constituted vide above order will regularly
conduct audit,
B. add/delete the new hazard/eliminate the hazards
C. regularly update worker engaged about their safe working procedure
D. frame a policy for non reoccurrence of any accident/incident and work to record
near miss accident/hazards occurrence
E. Proper MIS system for information in time to all
F. Monthly review at departmental level/Mines manager level
G. Proper recording of each mis-happening
H. Proper Enquiry of Each accident
I. Quarterly review at SBU Head level
J. Six monthly review at Corporate Level/CIS Level
K. Annual Review of all safety systems at company level

Earthing
(A) What is earthing- The process of connecting metallic
bodies of all electrical apparatus and equipment to
huge mass of earth by a wire having negligible
resistance is called earthing.

(B) Objective of earthing- Provide an alternative path for

the fault current to flow so that it will not endanger
the user.
Electrical system with & without earthing
Types of earthing

(1) Pipe Earthing.

(2) Plate Earthing.
(3) Strip Earthing.
