About the PThU

 The Protestant Theological University (PThU) is a specialised university for the theological
study of the Christian Faith, rooted in the protestant tradition.

 The PThU is the official academic training institute for the ministers of the Protestant Church
in the Netherlands (PCN) and offers a programme for continuing education.

 Teaching focuses on the Sources, Beliefs and Practices of the Christian Faith.

 2 research foci: Mediating Good Life and Moving Identities

 4 research clusters: Church and Slavery, Ground project, Moral Compass project, Church2040

 PThU is located in Amsterdam and Groningen.

The international Master of Theology programme is:
an English-taught programme

a one year (60 ects) intensive programme, starting in September each


academic year

an international ecumenical programme with a contextual approach in all


theological sub-disciplines, offering multiple opportunities for intercultural
encounter and interaction with students from all over the world.

 The Master of Theology consists of four different
specialised tracks:

 Ethics of Dignity
 Thinking God Interculturally
 Living Texts
 Missional Communities

 The intercultural focus of the programme returns in the


different courses and specialised tracks

 Fully accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO)

 Because of its research focus and high academic level, the programme is
uniquely suited as a second master's degree preparing for a teaching
ministry and/or doctoral studies.

Application
 Online application from 1 November 2022 to 1 April / 1 May 2023

 Admissions requirements:

 A bachelor’s degree in Theology or an equivalent diploma of a recognised academic


institution comparable to a Dutch research-focused bachelor’s programme or a master’s
degree (evaluation of general level of education and accreditation/recognition of study
programme).

 A good command of English, to be demonstrated by:


 a TOEFL score of 550 (PBT) or 79/80 (IBT)
 an IELTS score of 6,0

 OT or NT studies: a proven bachelor's level of Hebrew or Greek.


 For Hebrew this means a study load of at least 15 ECTS
 for Greek a study load of at least 20 ECTS (15 ECTS normal Greek studies and 5 ECTS
NT Greek).
Costs of study
 Tuition fees: €2,209 (for European students) or €4,075 (for non-
European students)  payment before the start of the academic year
or in (10) installments

 Visa and residence permit application fee: €207 per year (if applicable)

 Monthly costs of living: €400
 Monthly costs of accommodation: €500 - €600

 Travel to the Netherlands and back to your home country
 Travel in the Netherlands (Schiphol Airport - Groningen)
 A basic health and liability insurance: €600 per year (on average)

Conducting original research and writing a dissertation.

Initial Graduate School: 7 weeks (October - November)  courses

The international convivium
 The international convivium accommodates 15 residents: 7 Dutch
and 8 foreign residents.

 The international students are selected by PThU, together with the


student chaplain of the Ruimzicht Foundation.

 The Dutch residents, senior students and young professionals alike,


are selected by the Ruimzich Foundation.
