Introduction to cyber crime
 With the growing digitalization, internet crimes are also increasing
at a faster pace.
 Any offense committed against individuals or groups of individuals
to harm them, their reputation or cause mental trauma through
electronic means is known as cyber crime.
 It is committed using a network-connected device such as a
computer or a mobile phone. Those who commit cyber-crimes are
known as cyber criminals or cyber crooks.
 Some common types of cybercrimes include phishing, hacking,
cyber-bullying, identity theft, spamming just to name a few.

Introduction to cyber law
 Cyber law is the part of the overall legal system that is related to legal
informatics and supervises the digital circulation of information, e-
commerce, software and information security.
 It covers many areas, such as access to and usage of the Internet,
encompassing various subtopics as well as freedom of expression, and
online privacy.
 Cyber law is created to protect online organizations and people on the
network from unauthorized access of malicious people and punish those
who perform illegal activities online.

 Cyberlaw offers legal protections for people who are using the
Internet as well as running an online business.
 All online transactions are ensured to be safe and protected
providing security for all data and property.
 Helps to establish electronic governance and keep track of all
electronic records.
 Stops piracy and theft of information.

Electronic transaction Act of Nepal
 Electronic transaction Act of Nepal is Nepal’s first cyber law which came
into effect in 2006.
 It’s objective is to ensure the reliability and security of electronic
transactions including the control of records or alteration in such records
through illegal manner.
 It authorizes e-transactions and communication in public and private
sector and criminalizes different computer related unwanted activities.
 It deals with issues related to cybercrime and has made different
requirements so that if anyone is found committing cybercrime, he/she
will be punished according to the nature of the crime.

Conclusion

 In today’s rapidly digitalizing world, cybercrime has become an ever increasing


problem.

 For preventing such cyber crimes various cyber laws have been made which
protect us against various offences regarding computers.

 While these cyber laws may be useful, we have to take steps ourselves to be
aware of these crimes and take necessary action to be safe from such crimes in
the first place.
