Module 2
HIPAA Privacy (FAQs)
Why is it needed?
 To meet new regulations in the US. It is the customer’s responsibility to make sure
they are protecting patient information. Kodak can help by providing products that
are privacy enabled.

What can the MIM do?

 Limit access to patient information by requiring a log in for each MIM user.
 Provide a Security Administrator Console so customer can maintain control of which
operators and service providers are authorized to access Protected Health Information
(PHI).

Is privacy enablement optional?

 Yes. Privacy is enabled by default, but it can be turned off if the customer doesn’t
want to use that feature. Manufacturing will ship MIMs with privacy “on” for US
sites, and “off” for shipments outside the United States. Sites outside the US are not
expected to want privacy enabled.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 8

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 2
HIPAA Privacy (FAQs)
What keypad features will require a login with privacy enabled?
 All Mod Server and Print Server keypads will prompt the user to login when
accessing the DELIVERED QUEUE.
 Mod Servers with a Store or HIS/RIS license turned on will prompt the user to login
before any functions are available at the keypad.

Will I train the customer on the new privacy feature?

 If the customer wants the privacy enabled you will train a Security Administrator
(SA) on the features and use of the SA Console. The Security Administrator will be
responsible for selecting and training the authorized operators.

Where can I learn more?

 Read 8E9002 Security and Privacy Features for the MIM for complete information on
configuring and using the privacy feature and the SA Console. This is mandatory
reading for US Service!

Module 3
Module 3: SecureLink FAQs
What is it ?

Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.1 is a utility that provides a connection between the MIM
and the service laptop through a secure encrypted tunnel. A server component is resident on the
MIM V_6.1 application software, and a client component will be loaded on the SERVICE
LAPTOP. A valid renewable digital certificate is required to complete the connection.

Why is it needed ?

Worldwide there are many security regulations being put in place to limit and monitor who has
access to computer data, including Protected Health Information (PHI). By requiring a digital
certificate to gain access to the MIM computer we help the customer keep their data secure while
also ensuring their service provider is trained and qualified to work on the MIM.

What if I have a previous version of the Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE on my Laptop?

Installing Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.1 on your LAPTOP COMPUTER overwrites

previous versions. V_1.1 will connect to Kodak SecureLink V_1.0b11 on MIM V_6.0 systems and
the Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.0b12 on the Kodak DryView 8900 LASER IMAGER.
©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 17
MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 3
Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE FAQs

Will Service access procedures change?

Yes. Major changes when compared to version 5.2 and below. There is a new Kodak SecureLink
SOFTWARE login required to access the MIM, and other limitations are described later in this
section. Service access has small improvements going from MIM version 6.0 to 6.1.

How do I get Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE and a digital certificate for my LAPTOP
COMPUTER?

Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.1 is included on the MIM V_6.1 Service Application CD.
Once the software is installed, you can use it to generate a certificate request and install the digital
certificate.

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Useful Information for

Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE
 When the MIM detects an address conflict, Microsoft Windows 2000 OPERATING SYSTEM
disables the network port. The Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE connection must then be made
with a serial cable to the RAS Pool IP address.

 Default IP addresses for a “ghosted” V_6.1 MIM are:

– 123.123.123.10 for all MIM 200s, MIM100-433, and 25 PRINT SERVERS
– 123.123.123.200 for the Default RAS Pool

 When you are connecting the Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE over the network, make sure your
LAPTOP COMPUTER IP address is on the same subnet as the MIM.

 There was a bug in Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.0b11 which caused some
remote connections to fail if the LAPTOP COMPUTER operating system used regional settings
other than English (US). Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.1 corrects that problem.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 27

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Useful Information for

Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE
 There is no way to install or service a V_6.1 MIM without a Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE
connection. Be sure your certificate is always current.

 Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE digital certificates expire every 30 days.

 5 days before expiration you will receive an email with a new certificate.
Double-click the attachment to install the new certificate to your laptop.

 For Kodak employees, the digital certificate allows you to access any V_6.0 or V_6.1 MIM. For
non-Kodak personnel, the certificate can limit their access to specific serial numbers.

 If the date/time or time zone is wrong on the MIM, it might not match the date range on the digital
certificate and a Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE connection will not be made. Be sure the MIM
date/time and time zone are always set to the correct local values.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 28

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Useful Information for

Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE
 Non-Kodak personnel can receive a digital certificate if they have completed approved Kodak
training on the product.

 Questions should be directed to the Country Service Manager or Service Business Manager.

 Authorized third-party service providers will be trained for a fee. Once trained the service provider
will be entered in to the HI SecureLink Xternal Database by the country Registration Authority
(RA).

the MIM polls the broker for “Requested
Procedure Description” and uses that value to
fill the Study Description field.
 Scheduled Procedure Start Time – When
checked the MIM sends a date/time for the
scheduled procedure. When unchecked, only
the date is sent. Some systems don’t support
start times but will allow dates.
 Support Study Description – Unchecking
causes MIM not to query for Study Description

traffic at the customer site.
 Patient List can now be sorted by “Patient Name” (ascending order) or by
“scheduled time” (descending order from most recent).
 Starting in V_6.0, the MIM uses its configured AE Title when
communicating with the BROKER.

Module 6: Bar Code Reader Enhancements

 Behavior of the Bar Code Reader with HIS/RIS has changed in V_6.1

– Operator scans the bar code while the KEYPAD is at the Acquisition screen.

– Operator scans the bar code and gets one of the following results:

– Record is found in the MIM local database. Patient demographic fields fill in
automatically.
OR

– No record found on local database. MIM automatically does a global query.

• If a single match is found the patient demographic fields fill in automatically.

• If multiple matches are found the keypad switches to the patient list and results
of the query are displayed. Operator picks the correct record and returns to the
acquisition screen.

• If no matches are found the bar code data that was scanned will be placed in the
corresponding patient demographic field and the remaining demographic fields
will be empty.

Module 6
Bar Code Reader Enhancements

 Complete instructions for installing and configuring

the bar code reader can be found in Section 7 of the
MIM V_6.1 Service Manual, 8E8820 Rev B.
 Bar Code Reader must use “Patient ID” or
“Accession Number” as the primary field for the
Automatic Search to work correctly.

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 7: Printing Patient Demographics

 MIM 6.1 allows patient demographics to be printed as annotation at the bottom of a film.
The print destination must be configured for

– DICOM Annotation: checked

– Common Text: unchecked
Note: This is not the default setting. Demographics will not print correctly unless DICOM
Annotation is chosen.

 Demographics can be entered manually at the Touchscreen Keypad or received from the Bar
Code Reader or Broker.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 56

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 7
Printing Patient Demographics
 Up to 6 annotation fields can be printed on the film.
– If “DICOM Annotation” is supported the 6 fields will be printed at the
bottom of the film in 2 rows of 3 evenly spaced columns.
– If “Common Text” is chosen the 6 fields will be grouped and centered in a
line at the bottom of the page.

 Printing the patient demographics takes away from the space available to
print clinical images. Clinical image size may be reduced to compensate.

 Configuration is done from the Touchscreen Keypad and should be saved

in a profile.
 The [DATE and TIME] annotation will now be the acquisition time, not
the print time.

Module 8
SCP Services – Other Printer Options

What has changed ?

 Negotiate Color Print determines if
the PRINT SERVER will try to
negotiate the Basic Color Print
SOP Class.
 Defaults to “unchecked” in V_6.1.

Why ?
 Some SCUs that don’t support this
SOP Class have problems when
the negotiation fails.
 If the SCU is sending color
DICOM, then select this check
box.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 62

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
SCP Services – Other Printer Options

What has changed ?

 N-EVENT Reporting determines

if the Print Server will send
N- EVENTS (like changes in
printer status) to the SCU without
the SCU requesting them
(asynchronously).

 Default is unchecked in MIM

v6.1.
Why ?
 When unchecked, it improves
DICOM communications with
some SCUs, including Siemens
MODALITIES.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 63

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
AE Title Naming Convention

 AE Title can now include an underscore.

 This allows the MIM to replace other

equipment, such as the Kodak PACS Link
9410 ACQUISITION SYSTEM, more
easily.
Example: MIM_ct1

Note: This screen is used by MIM SCU and

SCP applications

Module 8
Film Counter Enhancement
What is it ?

 From an SCP perspective, the film count is broken out by each DICOM source as
identified by the unique Source ID within SCP Services.

 With V_6.1, the total count is also displayed.

Why is it needed ?

 Easier to keep track of the film count made by each attached SCU to a SCP target.

 Helps customer charge back film usage to each department.

 Easier to track total actuations for problem trending and reliability.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 65

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
Film Counter Enhancement
How is the film counter accessed ?

 Via SvcApp, select the Printing

Statistics Database screen from the
Admin pull down.

 For a Print Server, the “Source” is the

name of the SCU as listed in the SCP
Services Menu.

 For a Mod Server, the “Source” is

what the direct input was named.

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
Other MIM Changes and Limitations

 MIM V_6.1 does not support the Kodak 1200 DESKTOP MEDICAL IMAGER
and Kodak 3600 DESKTOP MEDICAL IMAGER.
 MIM V_6.1 cannot be loaded on the MIM 50, Kodak PACS Link DICOM PRINT
SERVER (DPS), Kodak Distributed MEDICAL IMAGE SPOOLER (DMIS), and
MIM 100-120MHz.
– (120MHz = s/n < 111345)
 MIM 200-2.4GHz does not support the MIM OI Board. PRINT SERVER
connections to the Kodak Ektascan 1120 LASER PRINTER and the Kodak
Ektascan 2180 LASER PRINTER must use the MIM 200-667, MIM 200-1GHz,
or MIM 200-1200MHz.
 If the MIM V_6.1 has an address conflict, Microsoft Windows 2000 OPERATING
SYSTEM disables the network adapter and a connection to the IP address of the
MIM will not work. You must connect with the serial cable using the RAS pool
address.
 The MIM V_6.1 no longer needs to be connected to the network for the configured
IP address to be active.
©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 67
MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
Other MIM Changes and Limitations

 When accessing a MIM through a VPN you must use the pcANYWHERE
SOFTWARE to reach mimdui on the desktop and configure that way. Service
Application from the laptop will not connect reliably.

 The pcANYWHERE SOFTWARE will not find the MIM V_6.1 when you scan the
network. You must know the MIM IP address and make a Kodak SecureLink
SOFTWARE connection to it, then connect the pcANYWHERE SOFTWARE to
127.0.0.1.

 MIM uses its configured AE title when communicating with the HIS/RIS
BROKER. In versions before 6.0 the AE title was always sent as “MIM”.

 MIM V_6.1 includes the HIS/RIS and 8800 fixes from V_5.2p2, V_6.0p2, and
V_6.0p3 patches.

 When a monitor is connected at power up and displays the message stating a

hardware change was detected, answer “no” when prompted to add new drivers and
reboot.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 68

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
Other MIM Changes and Limitations
 With MIM V_6.1 software, the MIM 200-2.4 GHz and 25 PRINT SERVER support a
“soft” power-off.

 The 25 PRINT SERVER requires 256 MB RAM to meet the performance requirements
with MIM V_6.1. Mod 40 for the 25 PRINT SERVER does not include the RAM since
most 25 PRINT SERVERS were manufactured with 256 MB RAM.

 The MIM 100 requires a RAM upgrade to 128 MB to support V_6.1. Mod 40 for MIM 100
includes the RAM and the V_6.1 “Ghost” CD.

 Because of the larger software footprint, each MIM model has a separate Ghost CD and the
hard drive must be a minimum of 10 GB.

 Changes to user passwords are not automatically backed up on the floppy. If privacy is
enabled, the System Administrator should recommend the operators back up configuration
from the keypad any time they change passwords.

©Eastman Kodak Company, 2003 69

MIM Kodak PACS Link Medical Image Manager, V_6.1

Module 8
Other MIM Changes and Limitations

 Bar code scanning of patient name or physician name does not find matches properly.
Physician name is not a supported matching field in the DICOM standard and normal
customer usage is to scan Accession number or Patient ID.

 MIM V_6.0 and V_6.1 require circuit boards be installed in specific slot assignments as
detailed in the MIM V_6.1 Service Manual.

 System Console information (Key Operator and Security Administrator accounts) cannot
be mirrored from a MIM V_6.0 to a MIM V_6.1.

 Some older IBM ThinkPad 600X LAPTOP COPMPUTERS may have memory limitations
that cause problems loading and running the Kodak SecureLink SOFTWARE V_1.1.

Module 9
MIM Embedded Enclosures

 MIM 200-1200 cannot be configured as a COMBO BOX. If you configure a direct input
first, the network input is grayed out. If you configure a network input, the direct input is
grayed out.

 MIM 100-1200 and MIM 200-1200 use the same motherboard and BIOS. It is possible to
“ghost” the MIM 100-1200 with the MIM 200-1200 CD and create a PRINT SERVER, but
do not do this. The MIM 100-1200 is significantly more expensive than the MIM 200-
1200, and the only added benefit is the patient contact rating which is not needed for a
PRINT SERVER.
