The Government of India had proposed major
amendments to ITA-2000 in form of the Information
TechnoIogy Amendment Act 2008.
The earIier IT Act of 2000 mentioned onIy decryption
of messages; interception and monitoring were not
mentioned at aII. Section 69 of the new IT Act
enhances the scope from the 2000 version to incIude
interception and monitoring. It aIso broadens the
scope of surveiIIance to incIude the investigation of
any offence, whether cognisabIe or not
