What is Academic Probation?

Probation is a status that a student is placed into

to indicate the poor performance of the student in the last academic semester(s).
Students are placed under academic probation if

their semester GPA falls below 2.0 (Article 51)

Getting a semester GPA below 2.0 in the summer

semester does not place the student under academic probation.

How can a student clear probation?

Under probation students register at most 12

credit hours (4 subjects) in a normal semester, or 6 credit hours (2 subjects) in a summer semester. (Article 51, M.D 339/2007).
The student has to achieve a cumulative GPA of

2.0 or more to clear probation (first, second, and third) assuming that his semester GPA is not below 2.0 in the following semester after being placed under probation. (Article 52).

How many probations?

A student is allowed to study under probation for

two consecutive semesters. Failing to obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the end of the following semester after having already been under academic probation will cause the dismissal of the student. (Articles 52 & 72). Upon College Council approval, a student is allowed to study in third academic probation. (Article 52, M.D 17/2012).

Semester vs. Cumulative GPA

A Semester GPA is the average of the subject the

student studied during a single semester. It is calculated the same way a Cumulative GPA is calculated. (Article 64) A Cumulative GPA is the average of the subjects the student studied up to date. (Article 65). Cumulative GPA is calculated for each level separately. (Article 66).

Calculating the GPA

When studying a subject for the second time, the

old mark is replaced by the new mark whether the old mark is greater or less than the new mark. (Article 53). When a studying a subject for the third time or more, the second attempt and any attempt that follows is calculated in the GPA. The student can repeat a subject where he/she obtained a passing grade of (C) or less with a maximum of three subjects (9 credit hours) per level. (Article 53, M.D 17/2012).
