1. Divide the class into 5 groups
2 Distribute different kinds of boxes
with different lengths, heights,
widths and depths eg. Shoe box,
tissue box, lunch box, pencil box,
etc. Pupils record the
measurements in the table
provided.

3. The pupils measure the lengths,
heights and widths of the boxes. (This
activity is carried out to recall what
they have learned earlier).

4. Pupils make a chart of things that have a
dimension of 1 cm.
e.g. thickness of a particular book, width of a
finger, width of an eraser etc.
5. Pupils need to understand how to use a ruler.
Discuss the starting point, noting that zero
(0) is at different places on different rulers
and necessarily at the very edge.
