Contact Types:
• Single Pole Single Throw (SPST): Controls one circuit, with one position (either open or closed)
• Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT): Controls one circuit with two positions (either an NC or NO terminal)
• Double Pole Single Throw (DPST): Controls two separate circuits, each with one position (open or closed)
• Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT): Controls two separate circuits, each with two positions (one of two
conductive positions)
Electro mechanicalrelay
a type of switch that is operated by an
electromagnet to mechanically open or close one or
more sets of contacts. The core function of an EMR
is to control a high-power circuit using a low-power
signal, providing isolation between the control and
the operational circuitry.
Solid-State Relays (SSR)
A DC input of sufficient voltage is applied at the control input terminals. There is a
diode for protection against the reverse polarity of the applied DC.
When the voltage is applied to the LED of the optocoupler, it emits infrared light.
On the other end, the Opto-TRIAC (receiver) picks up the light and switches on. As
soon as the optocoupler switches on, the output AC current starts flowing through it
In turn, this optocoupler’s output activates the TRIAC. Thus allowing the flow
of AC Load Circuit current
