The Brief
Our school was asked if we would like to work with Batley Business Retail Association to investigate the possibilities of introducing a loyalty card scheme to Batley Town Centre. This scheme would enable high street traders to boost their businesses and to give shoppers an extra incentive to visit the shops in the Town Centre.

Team Work
Our team consisted of ten year 9 students. We all volunteered to give up our lunch breaks to take part in this project. One of the first things we had to do was to work out how we were going to work as a team.

We surveyed staff from 14 businesses and received positive comments from ten of them. Ten businesses said they would like to be part of a Loyalty Card Scheme. Ten businesses said they thought the scheme would boost the sales of their business.
Nine businesses thought that a single scheme for all traders in Batley Town Centre could work, although they didnt have any ideas about how it could work.
July 2006
Eight businesses thought that a single scheme for their own business would work better, although we noticed that five businesses said yes to a single scheme and yes to a scheme for their own business.
We received five comments about how a scheme could work for individual businesses.

Dixys Chicken suggested that the card should be the same size as a credit card. It should have the Batley Town Coat of Arms and the Batley and Birstall Retail Association logo on the front with and terms and conditions on the back. It should come accompanied by a leaflet with information about all the businesses taking part such as opening hours, discounts etc. The owner of Dixys Chicken also said he would be interested in contributing to any further meetings about the scheme.
July 2006
58% of shoppers said they would be interested in a loyalty card scheme. From the people we talked to, 18 out of 31 use the Tesco Club Card Scheme. Only 3 out of 31 do not use any kind of loyalty card. Ten shoppers use Boots and Nectar loyalty scheme cards. 19 out of 27 people shop in Batley.

Conclusion
After taking account of all the responses we received we conclude that a Loyalty Card Scheme could work in Batley Town Centre as 72% of traders and 58% of shoppers told us they were interested the scheme. We have enjoyed taking part in this project. From this, we particularly enjoyed getting together in groups and working as a team to try and complete this project. We used each others special skills to complete each task.
