Abstract

The project is designed to increase the mechanical properties of Ductile Iron . Heat treatment is usually used to i mprove the mechanical properties of D uctile Iron. Austempered Ductile Iron the most important and recent achievement which have better mech anical properties than the convention al ductile iron. But we know that heatt reat treatment requires lot of Energy a Carbon nd Time. Our Most of the experiments were base Silicon d on Nano clay. Nano clay was introdu Magnesium ced during the casting process and t ested; there was a remarkable incre Sulfur ase in the mechanical properties of du Manganese ctile iron. Increase in tensile strength was observ Phosphorus ed after mixing the nano clay. This pro Molybdenum perty modification will help in the devel opment of automobile parts with better properties in lesser time and cost as w ell. Comparison of Mechanical Properties

Ductile iron Ductile iron is defined as a high carbon containing, iron-base alloy in which graphite is present in a compact, spheroidal sh ape Types of Ductile Iron Ferritic Ductile Iron Pearlitic Ductile Iron Austenitic Ductile Iron Martensitic Ductile Iron Austempered Ductile Iron Composition Percentage

Nano Clay Nanoclays are layered mineral silicate s having particle size in nm range. Depending on chemical composition and nanoparticle morphology, nanoclay s are organized into several classes su ch as 1. Montmorillonite 2. Bentonite 3. Kaolinite 4. Hectorite 5. Halloysite Chemical Materials Used Particle
