DEFENSE

Demon Defensive Philosophy Divide and Conquer

This is an offensive approach to Defense. The Defense needs to attack the Offense. The Divide and Conquer defense places the defense's responsibilities on a higher plane. Goals for this defense are to deny every yard, every pass, every play. In this strategy it is the responsibility of the defense to return the ball to the offense and to keep the opposing offense from dictating the pace of the game. Defense should emphasize creation of turnovers and forcing the offense into long yardage situations. An offense kept under constant pressure is more likely to make mistakes. When a mistake is made, the defense must be skilled at taking advantage of the mistake. It serves little purpose to make great efforts to cause a fumble by stripping the ball if the defenders are not skilled (through practice drills) at recovering fumbles.

DEFENSIVE PROGRESSIONS

S. A. F. E.

STANCE- balanced stance ALIGNMENT- timely pre-snap communication of strength, formation and adjustment calls FEET - every player takes a proper read/drop step in the direction of their assignment for that play EYES - eyes on their focal key point in order to establish a run/pass key or read the play

A defensive players value to the team can and will be measured by his distance from the ball at the end of the play-Bob Stoops, U of Oklahoma

Defensive Goals For Each Game

Three turnovers per game. Defensive score. Hold our opponents to 10 points or less. Third down efficiency of 65 percent stops or more. Ten or more tackles for loss. No run over 15 yards. No pass over 25 yards. One hundred rushing yards or less. One hundred passing yards or less. Two hundred total yards or less
