15 LIFE Lessons from the Japans tragic Disaster

1. THE CALM Not a single visual of chest-beating, wailing or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been alleviated.

In the face of any adversity or calamity may our mind remain calm and composed.

2. THE DIGNITY Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

May we, with self-discipline, train the mind to greater spirituality.

3. THE ABILITY The incredible architects and the workmanship, for instance. Buildings swayed but didnt fall.

May we put our ability to good use for the well-being and happiness of others.

4. THE GRACE People bought only what they needed for the present, no hoarding of food or other essentials. So everybody could get something.

May we have a thought for those in need and not be overwhelmed by Greed.

5. THE ORDER No looting in shops, no honking, no road rage. Perfect law and order, and Just understanding

May we always show understanding, kindness and compassion to others.

6. THE SACRIFICE
Fifty workers willfully stayed back to pump sea water at the Fukushima nuclear reactors to avert a global disaster. None of the 50 lives today. How will the world ever repay them ?

May we not be self-centred but sacrifice to relieve others suffering.

7. THE TENDERNESS Restaurants cut prices by 75%. The strong cared for the weak. No child is left to cry on the streets, all are taken care of.

May we have honesty, integrity and a caring heart.

8. THE TRUST Write your name, address and telephone number on slip of paper and take money from your bank. Pay when you earn. No proof, verification of guarantee required.

Not a single Yen remains to be recovered. Not a single defaulter on record.

May our trust in each other grow stronger each day and not bend or break in the face of circumstance.

9. THE TRAINING The old and the young, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that. Children as old as 8 years help pack relief material at response centers. Incredible.

May we train the mind to be alert, heedful and at peace, always.

10. THE MEDIA They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

May we always act with truthfulness, responsibility and wisdom.

11. THE CONSCIENCE When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly!

May we always practice morality, virtue and righteousness and authenticity.

12. THE RESTRAINT No political mud slinging on the governments methods of handling the situation. All stones left unturned in reaping political benefits

May God give us the understanding to act for the well being of our country, and mankind

13. THE RESPECT Hundreds of dead bodies lay strewn everywhere after the disaster. Not one piece of jewellery was reported stolen

May God give us solace in these trying times


And the determination to shoulder their legacy

14. THE RESPONSIBILITY Every Saturday & Sunday people would move out with shovels, brooms and other tools to clear what ever debris of the earthquake and tsunami were left behind

May we always stand united and work for the betterment of the society

15. THE DETERMINATION Infrastructure restored and all other systems in place. People rebuild their nation in record time. State of emergency called off within 3 months.

May we always strive to achieve excellence in whatever we do
