Akron-Canton Transplant Recipients 2012 Meeting updates


Our next meeting will be July 17th at North Canton Medical Foundation Education Building A 6046 Whipple Ave. N.W.,North Canton 6:30p.m. - 8:30p.m.

Kidney transplant candidates receive the most complete local treatment with financial counseling, educational classes, social services and preliminary health screening provided. Kidney candidates also meet with a Nephrologist and Surgeon in Akron. Liver, heart and lung candidates receive initial consultations at the Akron facility, with the remainder of the evaluation process completed in Cleveland at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The actual transplant and follow up care will take place at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland. The Akron office is open 8 days a month with scheduling through University Hospitals Transplant Institute. Meetings start at 6:30 with a pot luck meal followed by any announcements and pertinent information. Meetings end with a Round Table Discussion.

June, 2012 Meeting


Mary Fread, Pat Summers, Rosie Price, Steven Tucker, Dick Samolia, Charlie Craig, Jacqui Scolaro (and her mom) and Nancy & Walt Hinkel reviewed the plans for the August Gift of Life Walk & Run and our 25th Anniversary picnic and the results from the June 16 & 18 Hartville Flea Market. Thanks to the Goldens for all their efforts.

From Dick Goddard and dogs to adopt, to a day bed and portable crib, to Coke chairs and a table, to Precious Moments and a real pop corn maker, there was something for everyone at this years Hartville Flea Market TRIO Booth. It was another record year for Akron Canton Trio. Thank you to Ray and Susan Golden and Haley for all their efforts in collecting and selling all the items. Special thanks to Hartville Marketplace for generously donating a space and allowing us to attend each year.

Lifebanc Gift of Life Walk & Run August 11, 2012 at Blossom Music Center

TRIO 25th Anniversary Picnic August 12, 2012


2012 is the 25th anniversary of TRIO (Transplant Recipients International Organization). We will celebrate this event at this years annual Celebration of Life Picnic. We will gather at the John Torok Community & Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road (route 241 by the fire station and south of the new traffic circle), Green, Ohio 44232. The Picnic is from 12:00PM to 4:00PM and burgers and hot dogs will be provided by TRIO. Thank you to Vicki from Sugardale/Freshmark Meats for providing the hot dogs since 1992. Thank you for Schwebel baking for providing the hot dog buns. Everyone is welcome and please bring a covered dish for the pot luck picnic table. Please tell Mary Fread or Nancy or Walt Hinkel what you are planning to bring. Please pray for nice weather since Ray Golden spent last years picnic cooking in the rain.

Celebration of Life Party December 18,2012 A total of 56 wonderful people attended the 2011 Party. Thank you all for attending and making it a success. Ornaments were placed on the tree in memory of donors and loved ones. Robin Pelton donated some really great door prizes. Please mark the 18th on your calendar and plan to attend. We are required to have a minimum of 50 in order to reserve the auditorium for 2013. Set-up time will be at 5:00pm for volunteers help to get ready for our 6:30 dinner. More details later.

Awareness We promote organ and tissue donation as an important social responsibility. We develop and support mechanisms to improve the availability of organs and tissues on an equitable basis to meet the need of transplant candidates.
