Support sought for Medical Mission to Honduras

For the fourth year in a row, Aldersgates Fay Painter, joined this year by
Kathryn Reid, will spend a week in June in the impoverished, remote
mountainous region of central Honduras, bringing life-saving medicine
and health care to children and families. Fay and Kathryns mission trip
is with the Friends of Barnabas Foundation in Midlothian, Virginia, which
was started 15 years ago by a United Methodist minister, the Reverend
Linwood Cook. Fay is the co-leader of the June team. The cost is $2,000
per person, and the team needs to raise an additional $7,500 to
purchase medicine and medical supplies. Please consider a gift to
sponsor her trip. Checks may be made payable to AUMC and write
Honduras mission trip in the memo line. Thank you and God bless you.

the global gathering of The United Methodist Church, and there are
plenty of ways for you to be involved. Visit www.umcom.org to learn
more.

May 1, 2016

During the month of May, the Outreach & Missions Team will be
collecting food items for the Emergency Food Network. The
Emergency Food Network provides a 3-day food supply to
individuals and families in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area who
find themselves in an emergency without food.
We suggest the following items:
Breakfast cereal
Canned fruit
Canned pasta with sauce
Canned vegetables
Baking mixes for cakes/breads/pancake mixes
Coffee/tea
Your contributions may be placed in the food collection bins in the
Reed Room and the Welcome Center. Monetary donations are
also welcome. If you would like to make a monetary donation,
please make your check payable to Aldersgate United Methodist
Church, note "Emergency Food Network" on the memo line and
place it in the offering plate. Thank you for your support to the
Emergency Food Network.

ALMOST 3,000!
I recently returned from my annual medical mission trip to Haiti. This
years April Team saw 2,927 patients, including 125 dental patients. I
have been participating in The Haiti Mission since 2001, and the people
at Aldersgate have been generous supporters during this time. This year
Aldersgate contributions (which totaled over $2,300) purchased $1,400
worth of medication, $270 worth of consults or procedures at our
referral hospital, $275 towards a clean water system, Happy Meals for
hungry patients, and helped to support school expenses for needy
students.
It has been a true blessing for me to continue to be a part of this
amazing project. Contributions from Aldersgate, and from countless
other generous souls, have made it possible to send medical teams to
this rural community in northern Haiti four times a year since the mid
1980s. In addition, The Haiti Mission now funds a local physician who
works all year round at the clinic. Over the 15 years I have been going to
Haiti, I really can see a slow improvement in the health of this
community.
Bondye Beni, mesi anpil (God Bless and many thanks).

If you have not made a pledge for 2016, please prayerfully consider

fully fund our plan for ministry. Commitment cards are in the Narthex.
