ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Friends,

Our hearts are full! The acts and words wishing us a happy,
relaxing (Ed) and active (Faith) retirement were very much
appreciated. Our time with you has been so meaningful and will
leave us with lasting memories.

Each day as we look at our quilt and quillow, we will have your
words to guide and support us. Please know that your Love gift is
extremely generous and will be used for something special.

We will continue to pray for the ESUMC family and hope that we are
included in your prayers as well.

All the best as you go forward in Christ, Ed and Faith

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are caregivers. They are trained in
topics such as listening, feelings, boundaries,
assertiveness, and using Christian resources. They also
learn how to offer care in specialized areas such as divorce, grief,
aging, hospitalization. Care receivers are the recipients of Stephen
Ministers care. They are people from our church and community
who are experiencing a time of difficulty. Stephen Ministers usually
meet with their care receivers once a week for about an hour for
as long as the care receiver will benefit by the relationship.
Do you know someone who will benefit from Stephen Ministry, or
are you interested in training to become a Stephen Minister? Call
Peggy Strack, 570-421-3280, ext 23.

Caring Callers
Phone calls are being placed by caring volunteers to folks
who have demonstrated active attendance at ESUMC worship
services, but have not registered attendance for four or more
Sundays. The purpose is to discern if a need is present
which the church family may help to meet. Please register
your attendance on the communication card found in the
bulletin or pew, so that you do not receive an unnecessary
phone call!

FAITH PROMISE UPDATE

One of the Partners of FAITH PROMISE is Domestic
Disaster Relief through UMCOR (United Methodist
Committee on Relief). We are all well aware of the natural
disasters that have claimed lives, destroyed homes and
forests, brought economic disaster to communities and
affected thousands of people across the country.

When these disasters occur, UMCOR is there with multi-
faceted help: cleaning buckets and health kits are distributed,
Care Teams offer spiritual and emotional support, and as
ESUMCs mission team didthere are volunteer teams
cleaning and renovating homes. Also, long term recovery
assistance continues long after disaster headlines are
dropped.

From May to December last year, UMCOR responded to 24
disasters around the United States. Roughly half never made
the news. This year disasters continue to wreck havoc for
many people and places. FAITH PROMISE pledges $2000/yr to
Disaster Relief and 100% of our gift is used to help people
in need. Administrative costs are covered by donations to One
Great Hour of Sharing. The US Disaster Response Secretary
writes, I am so grateful to have you by our side.

Family Promise of Monroe County has many student
supporters from High Schools, Scout Troops (Girl and Boy),
NCC, Confirmation Classes, and Campers this year. Their
contributions came in many forms for the homeless families
with children. Berean Bible Fellowship Church was welcomed
as a new host site this year. Sabrina joined FP as a new
caseworker specializing in Aftercare. Another new employee is
Lisa who works as a Case Manager. In addition to the families
served by the host churches, another 21 families were helped
with other forms of assistance and services. The community is
surely blessed by the mission of Family Promise: to provide
safe shelter, meals and support services for homeless families

with children through a collaborative network of local
congregations.

Many, many warm words of thanks to Clarice Wilkens for her
superb planning and oversight as coordinator for ESUMCs
hosting of Family Promise; fantastic job!! We look forward
to working with her replacement, Jenn Dunn in the future.

Letters and some information about our Partners may be
found on the Bulletin Board in Oberholtzer Hall. Donations for
FAITH PROMISE may be placed in the envelope in the
Bulletin, in the weekly envelope for Missions, or anytime
noting it is for Faith Promise or Missions.
