Maungdaw, Buthidaung in Rakhine State placed under curfew


On 8 June,2012 Maungdaw Township General Administration Department has imposed a curfew , g p p p order (1/2012) under Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure in Maungdaw, Rakhine State today as riots broke out in the town this afternoon have disrupted the community peace and prevalence of law and order. The following is the translation of the order order. Township General Administration Department Maungdaw Township Code of Criminal Procedure Section-144 Curfew Order No.1/2012 8 June, 2012 (4th Waning of Nayon, 1374 ME) General Penal Code No. 1/2012 No It is hereby announced for the public knowledge on 8 June, 2012. During riots in Maungdaw on 8 June, 2012, houses in wards in Maungdaw were set fire, people were beaten and houses were looted. I believe that gathering of five or more than five people at streets, roads, the main road, g g p p , , , lanes, garden (or) public places which are built for the people in Maungdaw to live in peace can cause arson attacks, clashes and lootings again. Therefore, curfew is imposed under Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure and five or more than five people shall not gather at roads streets the main road lanes garden (or) mosques roads, streets, road, lanes, and public schools in municipal area of Maungdaw and not to go outside from 6 pm to 6 am. State of Emergency declared in Rakhine State


Republic of the Union of Myanmar President Office Ordinance No. (1/2012) 6th Waning of Nayon 1374 ME (10 June 2012) State of Emergency declared 1. Due to instability in some townships in Rakhine State, Section-144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was issued on 8 June 2012 for the sake of security of people and ensuring peace and stability. 2. However, riots and disturbances have spread, and it is found that only the issuance of Section-144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure is not enough in Rakhine State to conduct administrative work effectively and thus, to be able to bring about security and peace and stability for the people immediately, State of Emergency is declared as of today in Rakhine State in accord with the Section 412, Sub-section (a) of the Constitution of Republic of the Union of Myanmar. 3. In accord with the Section 413, Sub-section (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, assistance of the Defence Services is to be obtained to effectively carry out duties. 4. 4 This ordinance shall remain in force until any other order is issued issued. 5. President U Thein Sein broadcast a request on incidents in Rakhine State to the public on 10 June 2012. Instabilities and violence deteriorate widely in Rakhine State based upon Kyauknimaw case. The President emphasized that all of us including religious organizations, religious leaders and political parties have to takes control of the situation in g p p unison.
