Canyon Views
An A+ School Driven by Childrens Needs

Principals Message:
Dear Canyon View Families,

August has nally come to a close, and the last three weeks have been very important for our students as they have begun building lasting relationships with their teachers and classmates, and learning about the new responsibilities and routines that are tied to this school year. We completed all of our classroom Curriculum Nights this week. We want to thank all of you who attended. We hope the evening was informative and you were able to learn about your childs day here at school. Effectively communicating with our families is very important to us and we are committed to keeping the lines of communication open between school and home. If you ever have any questions regarding your child progress or performance, please do not hesitate to contact your childs teacher. In the last newsletter, I outlined some of the safety procedures we have in place during student drop-off and pick-up. We have seen many improvements over the last two weeks. However, we can always improve. Please do not drop your child off at the crosswalk or in the parking lot area and have him/her cross by him/herself. This is not safe, but it also makes the cars that have driven through the line wait as students cross the crosswalk. We really appreciate your help in keeping our children safe.

Sodexho Lunch Service/ Bus Cards There has been an increase in the price of school lunches this year. K-5 lunches are now $3.00. Dont forget to use www.mylunchmoney.com to make pre-payments to your childs school meal account. They take Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards. Also, there has been a small change in our lunch program this year. Each student purchasing lunch MUST take 1/2 cup of fruit and 1/2 cup of veggies from the offering bar. This is to make sure our school follows the national nutritional guideline. Regarding lunch & bus cards, each student will have two cards this year. One for lunchonly, and one for approved bus riders. The lunch only card will stay here at school and the bus card will stay clipped to studentsbackpacks. The bus cards will not be ready for a few weeks, but students are allowed to ride the busuntil they arrive. All students have been issued their lunch card. Any

question, please call the ofce 209-7701.

Mark your calendar as September 27th is Canyon Views 25th anniversary and we are going to celebrate! We are planning on hosting a schoolwide assembly at 8:15 a.m. with several top-secret events to properly celebrate an important milestone for our school and surrounding community. I would like to extend the invitation to all parents, families, and alumni. Also, if you know of anyone who was part of the original 1987 Canyon View student body, then get the word out to them and make sure they show up so we can recognize their contributions! One of the few event details that we are telling families is that we are asking all of our students to wear a white t-shirt. It does not matter if it is a CV shirt or not, just that its white. More details will be included in the next edition of Canyon Views. Finally, during my daily visits to the classrooms, I have been thoroughly impressed by the curiosity that our children possess as they seek new knowledge. I am constantly reminded that children do not let seemingly unimportant obstacles get in the way of an idea. A childs simplistic view of the relationship between a problem and a solution is something that we should not

6%

Stupendous Reasons to Use

the Bashas Community Card

1. Canyon View receives 6% and you get dollar for dollar put on the card (with no transaction fee) to spend at the grocery store. 2. Continue to add more money throughout the year and Canyon View continues to receive 6%. 3. Take advantage of the reward points from your credit card by using it to recharge your community card (CV earns 6% and you still earn your credit card rewards). 4. The 6% earned from the cards will support field trips, Artist in Residence, teacher grants, and other Canyon View programs. 5. The more families using the card to earn 6% for CV, the fewer fundraisers we will need. And the 6th reason to use the Community Card. 6. You need to eat, right?! .and CV needs the 6%!
So why not support Canyon View programs while feeding your family. It is easy, tastes great, and is for a great cause, our kids. Need a card? Use the attached order form or contact Kate Darling at katejeremiah@hotmail.com
