ASHTON HAYES PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

ISSUE 14 / SUMMER TERM 2013 / TUESDAY 23RD APRIL 2013

Welcome back to a new term at Ashton Hayes Primary School. I hope you all had a good break and spent =me with family and friends. I cannot believe we are in the nal term of this school year alreadywhere has the year gone?! We have lots of exci=ng things happening in the school for the children this term. The Year 3 and Year 4 children are also looking forward to their residen=al visit to York for two nights in the middle of May.
OSFTED

Many thanks to all the parents who gave their views on OUeds Parent View (the overall results are available to view on the website). The results paint a very posi=ve view of what parents and carers think of the school. I was delighted that nearly 40 responses were made, which is above average for a school this size, compared to other Ofsted inspec=ons. Thank you also to the parents who wrote to the inspector or who talked to her during the visit.
ASSESSMENTS

I am slightly out of sync with my regular newsleLers with the visit from Ofsted last week. The last =me the school was inspected was almost exactly ve years ago. Since then, there have been many changes to the way that schools are inspected, making the process very rigorous and challenging. At this stage, I am unable to give anything away as the report is subject to quality assurance checks. It will be published within a couple of weeks and I will let you know when this is available.

However, I can say that I was very proud of all the sta and children during the two-day inspec=on everyone worked very hard and maintained a very CAR BOOT SALE posi=ve aTtudewe look We have had a number of forward to sharing the report people sign up to take part in with you soon. the car boot sale, but we would love even more! The Year 6 children have their test week to look forward to later this term and I know they are working hard to prepare for the assessments. This year, there is a new assessment that will be tes=ng Spelling, Punctua=on and Grammar. All children in the school will con=nue to be assessed by the teachers which enables us to track the childrens progress through the year. We will report their aLainment at the end of the school year in a wriLen report. Please feel that you can always make an appointment to discuss your child with their class teacher. The best =me to meet with teachers is at the end of the school day, although telephone appointments can also be made at certain =mes of the school day.

items that you would like to sell? It is =me for a clear out of the garage or your children's toys? Have you got lots of clothes in the loU? This is a great chance to make some money for yourself and support the school. Please contact Nicole Wright on 07976 905946 if you would like to book a pitch. Please come along and support on this Sunday 28th April you never know what bargains you might spot!
PARENT GOVERNOR POSITION

Thank you to Mr Paul Voural who stood as parent governor since the beginning of this school year. As Mr Voural has give his resigna=on, there is a posi=on available on the governing body. Please see the email I send during the Easter holidays regarding nomina=ons. Please note that nomina=ons close this Friday.

I hope the children enjoyed the clubs last term. I am pleased to be able to oer the following clubs for the summer term. The Clubs led by Mr Richards have already started. The clubs led by sta will start in the next weeks and members of sta will contact you directly with further informa=on. In addi=on, Judo Club will be started on Friday 19th April and Mad Science Club will be star=ng shortly. PLAYGROUND

I hope you have had chance to stop and look at the new rubberized play surface that has been installed under the playground. I am delighted with the way it looks and performs - the children have been really keen to use the equipment every play=me. Thanks to the PTFA who part- funded the surface.
SHIRTS

Please con=nue to hand any money/slips/leLers into the School Oce via the front door, rather than through the door in school. Alterna=vely items can be posted in the red post box in the lobby. All payments can be made to school online via hLp://www.scopay.com/ashtonhayes. If you do not have a login or you have misplaced yours, Mrs Stubbs will be able to set this up for you. Online payments currently do not cost you anymore than paying by cash/cheque as the governors have agreed that charges are met by the school as part of the service the school provides.
TRAVELLING TO/FROM SCHOOL

We are now asking the children to wear their summer uniform. As many of you will know, the boys wear a red gingham shirt. These are quite hard to get hold of in the shops, however, Duddon School also use this shirt for their summer uniform and they have kindly agreed that we can order our shirts through their website. Please see the link below: hLp://www.kidsbiz.co.uk/proddetail.asp? prod=SHIRT/DUDDON
DATES FOR THE TERM

There are just a two spaces leU on the minibus in the mornings. If you would like your children to use the minibus, please contact Mrs Stubbs for more details. The minibus travels through Kelsall, OscroU, Tarvin, Barrow and Ashton Hayes. Please consider your parking at the front of school. I have received two complaints from local residents about inconsiderate and dangerous parking, par=cularly in Church Court. This road is not wide enough to park and we respecpully request that you do not use this road for parking or turning. Please be aware that Ashton Hayes is currently being targeted by the Police to catch drivers who exceed the 30mph speed limit. I am horried by the speed of trac that pass the school and believe we all have a responsibility to help make the road safer for our children. It is wonderful to see so many children walking or cycling or scootering to school lets hope the
