World Book Day
A few weeks ago (Newsletter 15),
we gave you notice of this very
exciting day in school. We would
like everyone to dress up as their
favourite book character for the day.
We will take the childrens photos
and display them in school. Please
help us to make this day
memorable by joining in the fun!

Reception children (and their parents!) have been very busy over the
holidays making lots of exciting toys for their space-themed role play
area. They are enjoying playing with each otherss inventions.

Thoughts from the week

I hope you enjoyed the week o with your
children and that you managed to find
some fine weather to get outside.

happening in classrooms and how we

make judgements about the childrens
learning.

Thank you for your support at the disco

just before the holiday. It was wonderful
again to welcome back nearly all the
children who had a great time during the
evening. I am very humbled by the hard
work that the PTA put into organising and
running these events - thank you for all
your help and enthusiasm. A special
thanks must go to Mrs Mette Miller who
always gives 100% to the PTA events and
is one of the reasons that there is so
much enthusiasm in the team - your help
and time is much appreciated.

You may have read, with interest, the

stories in the Round Tower newsletter
about the continuing views of the use of
the Zebra Crossing on Norley Road.
Through the newsletter and my
assemblies, I have tried to encourage the
safe use of the crossing, although we
also acknowledge that some motorists
have not been stopping for children and
parents who are already on the crossing.
This matter has now reached the
attention of our local councillors who
have requested that Cheshire West and
Chester Road Safety Team be involved.
They will shortly be leading an assembly
for the children and are arranging for
leaflets to come home. Additional
monitoring of the use of the crossing
should also follow.

We are looking forward to the next few

weeks in school. We have some important
and exciting events happening in the next
half term, including two residential visits
(for Year 2 and Year 5). We have meetings
for parents to discuss your childrens
progress and next steps as well as a
curriculum/assessment information
evening to learn more about what is

Children will be coming home with

World Book Day vouchers for you to
enjoy spending with your children
on some more books.

Curriculum/Assessment
Information Evening - 7.00pm
Can I remind you of this important
and hopefully useful evening. We
will explain the main changes to the
new national curriculum and to how
the curriculum is being assessed.
Following a general introduction,
you are invited to each of the 7
classes to hear more about the
specifics of the assessments. This
will be an opportunity to learn more
about the new assessments (tests)
at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2)
and Key Stage 2 (Year 6).
Children are welcome to attend this
evening, although we appreciate
that it is starting to get late for some
children.

Easter Eggs
The Vale Royal Lions have again donated 10 Easter Eggs to
the school as part of their fund raising this Easter. Each class
has a card with cells that can be bought for 1. Nearer the
end of term, we will cut up the cards and draw one out of a
bag. This will be the
winner for the class and
they will receive a
Maltesers Egg. All of the
cards will then be put into
a school draw where
children will have the
chance to win a very
large chocolate egg (on
display by the oce) and
two runners up prizes.
The Lions kindly split the
profits from this
competition so the
school receives
additional funds. Thank
you for joining in and
good luck!
Parents Evenings
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school on the
Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March for our second
parents meetings of the year. This will be a chance to see
how much progress the children have made this year and to
talk to class teachers about your childrens next steps for the
rest of the school year. You will also be able to make a
further comment in your childs books as last time. I know
that the children really enjoyed reading the messages that
you write for them.
We will be taking bookings though the school website, as
last time. You will need to know your childrens log on
details. Please make sure that you have these to hand or
contact a member of sta for a reminder. The booking
system will be opened on Thursday afternoon (tomorrow) at
4.30pm to allow you to start making your bookings.
When you have logged on, click on Wiki tab. You will see the
parents evenings in the list, each starting with A (to keep
them at the top of the list of Wikis).
Please follow the instructions in the Wiki when making the
booking. We recommend that you go back and check that
your childs name appears in the list after clicking save.
Sometimes when two parents go in at the same time, it
doesnt always save them both - its worth checking to make
sure you have the slot booked. As always, if you have any
diculties making the booking, or you have no access to the
Internet, please contact the school oce where one of the
oce sta will be happy to make the booking for you.
School Kitchen
I hope you will have read the email I sent out on Monday
regarding our school lunches. At 8.45am on Monday
morning, I was informed that the kitchen would have to be
closed for cooking due to some safety concerns with the
ventilations system and gas supply. This followed a routine
gas inspection and subsequent investigation and is as a
result of the changing gas regulations. I am now working
with Edsential and Cheshire West and Chester to find a
solution to the problem and a way forward to prepare and
cook our school lunches. At the moment, school lunches will

be cooked o site and served in school as normal. This is

common practice in a number of schools across the Borough
who either have no kitchens on site or whose kitchens are
subject to work during term time. From the childrens point of
view, they will receive their school lunch from the servery in the
normal way. The kitchen sta will work on and o the site to
prepare the meals and get the lunches ready for lunchtime.
Snacks are unaected as they do not require gas to cook
them. Additionally, some electric-powered ovens have been
brought on site so that some of the meals can be cooked in
our kitchen.
I am meeting with Cheshire West and Chester this week to
work through a more permanent solution and will, or course,
keep you updated.
Please be assured that the meals are cooked to exacting
standards for the children to enjoy as normal.
Sport Relief
If you are a Blue Peter fan, as
I know many parents and
children are (!), you will be
aware that they are working
with Sports Relief to raise
funds this year. Lizzie and
Toby in Year 5 are inviting all
children in the school to
make your socks sweaty for
Sport Relief by asking them
to design a sweaty sock
design, which they will send
to Blue Peter on their behalf.
they will also judge the
sweatiest design and give
out prizes in school. Entry
forms will be given to the
children this week and they need to be back in school by
Friday 4th March for judging (with a 50p donation per entry).
They will be submitted to Blue Peter by the deadline of 11th
March.
Each class will be having a sporty event on Sports Relief day more details to follow soon. We hope that lots of children will
join in the fun for this very worthwhile charity.
Stang
Mrs Bestwick (grandma to Jack and Ellie) Mrs Carter (mum to
Grace) have joined our team of midday assistants - we warmly
welcome you to our school.
Weaverham High School Transport
Catherine Cole has asked me to inform you that there will be a
meeting regarding the Weaverham High School transport
issues - this will take place tonight at 7.00pm (Wednesday
24th February) at the Cuddington and Sandiway Scout Hall on
Norley Road Playing Fields. I know a lot of parents have
concerns over the proposed changes and your support would
be greatly valued at this meeting tonight.
