O c to b e r New s le t te r

Dear Parents,
We're off and running for the 2012-2013 school year! We are getting the chaos under control! The children are beginning to catch onto the routines of our classroom and I am slowly learning the special qualities that each of your children possess. I think we are all having a GREAT TIME!!! We have been working lots with numbers, identifying different letters, meeting some letter people, learning how to hold our pencils correctly and just getting to know each other. The month of October will see us investigating our names, and discovering more things that make us unique. We will meet more letter people and do lots of counting. We will also start to get to know our Grade 3 Buddies. We are just so busy! I must apologize for not writing in the Blue Books very often. I would love to write more but am finding my time swallowed up. The majority of parents are writing to me in the books and this seems to be working very well. Remember, I'd like to hear from you if you have any questions or concerns. I hope everyone is enjoying our beautiful fall and looking forward to winter (yeah, right!) Happy Thanksgiving,

Bits and Pieces:

jmcmahon@brsd.ab.ca

**Our library day is Thursday, please make sure your childs library book comes back by Thursday, if you are done it can come back sooner. **If your child is going anywhere out of the ordinary after school, please write it in the Bluebook. The children themselves dont always remember. If they are going on a bus that they do not usually ride or getting off at a different stop we need a written note to be signed by administration due to insurance regulations. **Take note of the little pieces of paper coming home with a letter and a learning cue on the bottom. (So far only Mr. F has come home). Your child will be able to tell you what letter it is, what sound it makes, what makes it special and show you it in sign language. These are great to post around the house as learning cues for the children. **You will be receiving Scholastic book order forms in the near future. If you wish to order a book for your child make sure you include the order form with a check, not cash. Our classroom does receive free books with a classroom order, but your participation is completely optional. ***Could Cooper and Trent ask their Moms or Dads to whip up a batch of playdoh to send to Kindergarten, any color the boys would like will be perfect.

Our Kindergarten class has been chosen to take part in a Readers Theater group that is being led by an Occupation Therapist, Speech Therapist and Physical Therapist. We will be visiting the Public Library and learning two plays, complete with costumes. We will invite our parents to our final show. We will begin visiting the Library for these sessions on Oct. 11 and continue into November.

Big Things to Remember

Grandparents or Special Person Day

We will be inviting one set of Grandparents to come for a special day. I'm sorry, but I can only allow one set of Grandparents, I simply don't have room for them all. In the past, students have invited two grandmas instead of a grandma and grandpa, this is fine. We will be putting on a little program for them and then carving jack-o-lanterns. We will be sending out invitations when we visit the post office in early October. Please send an addressed, stamped envelope for the set of grandparents your child wishes to invite. I need all envelopes by Thursday, October 9. (If two grandmas are coming, Ill need two addressed, stamped envelopes.) We will be having a little lunch for the Grandparents. I have chosen 10 sets of parents who will be responsible for sending a tasty treat on this day. Remember, we will be having approximately 40 people and I have put two families in charge of each food item so you do not have to bring so much.

Halloween Party and Spookwalk

We will be having our Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 30, from 2:00-3:15. The children can get into their costumes after lunch. If you would like to come help your child get into their costume that would be fine, if it is simple, I can manage it. I would like to ask two parents to volunteer to help with the party. I will take the first two who write me a note in the Bluebook. I would like to walk the kids over to Big Knife Villa to parade our costumes and sing a few spooky songs to the Grammas and Grandpas who live there. I would like to ask the following families to bring the following items for our party Volk Sweet Treat Strauss - Veggie Tray MooreCrackers and cheese, meat optional Wiltsefruit tray

Remember!!!! Please make sure everything you bring in is nut free.

What are you good at?

Everybody is good at something. Are you good at woodworking, taking things apart and putting them back together, cooking, scrapbooking, technology, playing an instrument, riding horses, cleaning out the barn, singing, sewing or reading. Forestburg school is your school community and we would love it if you would share your talents with us. Drop me a note in the Bluebook and let me know your talent. Kindergarten kids think everything is cool, if you can walk backwards and chew gum they will be impressed! Dont be shy, contribute to our class and our school.

All food donations for our party can be brought in the morning and I will put them in the fridge or you can bring them by 2pm. Thank you!!!!

This would be a good place to insert a short paragraph about your organization. It might include the purpose of the organization, its mission, founding date, and a brief history. You could also include a brief list of the types of products, services, or programs your organization offers, the geographic area covered (for example, western U.S. or European markets), and a profile of the types of customers or members served. It would also be useful to include a contact name for readers who want more information about the organization.

Back Page Story Headline

This story can fit 175-225 words. If your newsletter is folded and mailed, this story will appear on the back. So, its a good idea to make it easy to read at a glance. A question and answer session is a good way to quickly capture the attention of readers. You can either compile questions that youve received since the last edition or you can summarize some generic questions that are frequently asked about your organization. A listing of names and titles of managers in your organization is a good way to give your newsletter a personal touch. If your organization is small, you may want to list the names of all employees. If you have any prices of standard products or services, you can include a listing of those here. You may want to refer your readers to any other forms of communication that youve created for your organization. You can also use this space to remind readers to mark their calendars for a regular event, such as a breakfast meeting for vendors every third Tuesday of the month, or a biannual charity auction. If space is available, this is a good place to insert a clip art image or some other graphic.
