By: Hanne, Roshani and Chentian The Dress-Code Muslim women wear hijabs because they believe Allah (God) has made it an obligation for them. The hijab is a headscarf which is used for covering the head and the neck. Muslim women wear hijabs to be modest, and modesty is very important in the Islamic society. Muslim women cover up their body so that they are heard and not objectified. Women's Position/ Status in the Islamic Society Before, women were treated like slaves and property. Muslim women have made strong contributions to the development of the Islamic society. Islam improved the status of muslim women by instituting rights of property ownership, inheritance, education, marriage and divorce for them. Discrimination Many people in the Western World think badly of muslim women because of their religion and their dress-code. Discrimination is a big issue that muslim women deal with today. Marriage and Sexuality The Islamic law states that women have the right to choose their husbands and the right to initiate a divorce. Muslim women are not allowed to date or go out with a man before marriage. Muslim women are only allowed to marry muslim men. Many muslim women find it hard to abide by all the strict marriage rules of Islam.
