As you are aware, the Director of Education sent a letter to teachers on November 8, 2012. The Federation has responded to the Board and the response included the following statements: It was, and remains, our position that our members are exercising their individual rights to refrain from performing certain activities and that this individual action does not constitute strike activity; We also fundamentally reject your claim that members are acting contrary to the law. Indeed, ETFO members are exercising their rights in accordance with the supreme law of Canada, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and are exercising their constitutionally protected right to engage in peaceful political protest as they deem to be appropriate; and ETFO will support and defend our members to the fullest extent if the Board carries out any of the improper threats or pursues any of the avenues suggested in your letter.
