What is a prayer journal?

Prayer Journal
A prayer journal is a place to record prayer requests for you and others, and how
God has answered those prayer requests. It is a way of remembering God’s
activity in your life. The ultimate goal of this journal is provide you with a guide
to help you whenever you take time to pray.

Why keep a prayer journal?

For many of us it’s difficult to know what to prayer for. In fact, sometimes it can
feel very overwhelming. However, it's amazing how much easier praying can be if
you keep a journal of your prayers. It does not have to take long to write in or go
through your prayer journal. You can just jot down people or situations that you
need to pray for and then lift them up to God in prayer.

The benefits of keeping a prayer journal:

o When we get discouraged, it helps us remember how God has always
worked powerfully in and through our lives in the past (Psalm. 77:11).
o Prayer journaling helps us develop Spiritual H.A.B.I.T.S. that will train
and mature us as Christians (1 Timothy 4:7).
o Prayer journaling reminds us that God does answer prayer and it increases
our trust in Him (1 John 5:14-15)

How to use this prayer journal?

This prayer journal is very simple to use. On each column there is a spot to record
when you began praying for a request, who and what it was for (these can be
personal requests or requests for others), and how and when God answered it.
Whenever someone asks you to pray for them, just write it down. Then when
you’re ready to pray, you will know exactly what to pray for. Continue praying
for requests until they are answered. When you have received an answer, hi-light
the request so you know it has been answered and can thank God for His answer.

For prayer requests that do not receive an immediate answer, place them under
continuing prayer requests, so you know they still need to be prayed for. There is
“Call to Me and I also a section to record praises – awesome things that God is doing! Finally, take
will answer you, time once in a while to answer the two questions (Where have I seen God in my
and tell you great life recently? How have I been growing in my faith most recently?).
and hidden things
And for permanent prayer requests (family members, friends, church) there is a

known.” journal you will not forget to pray for those closest to you. There is also a spot in
Jeremiah 33:3 the back to write down permanent personal prayer requests (spiritual growth,
patience, kindness, etc.). Praying for yourself is also very important! I guarantee
that you will grow as a Christian if you keep up with this prayer journal!

George Muller (1805-1898)

As a boy, George Muller was a thief and a liar, but after

turning to Christ in his twenties, he opened several
orphanages in England and provided for over 10,000
orphans in his lifetime – without ever asking anyone but
God to supply their needs. He testified that he knew of at
least 50,000 specific answers to his prayers. He kept a
prayer journal very similar to the one you are holding. In the left column of
the page he would write down the prayer request and the date when he
began praying for it and in the right-hand column the date when it was
answered and how. One specific request required years of continual
prayer, but eternal rewards. He had been praying for a particular man to
receive Christ for twenty-seven years. It was later learned that the man
accepted Christ at Muller's funeral. George Muller would not stop praying
for a prayer request...until it was answered!
