The World Comes to Paraguay

When we became full-time missionaries, I imagined wed help out with short-term teams--you know those groups that come in for a few days or a few weeks. Were smack in the middle of summer vacation here, and we have been quite busy with just that-short-term mission teams. But somehow, I imagined that these would be Englishspeaking American folks. This is one of a million times God has surprised me on the mission field! We have been involved with ministry teams from all over the world this past month, but theres not been an American in the mix. Theyve come here from France, Brazil, Uruaguay, and Chile. We also had the opportunity to host long-term missionaries from El Salvador and Australia, and next week a family from England will be in our home. Its amazing how God unites the nations in His work, and we feel so privileged to be a part of it!

We thank God for healing Caroline of dengue fever a few weeks ago. Her fever dropped instantly from 104.3 to normal, and her pain was gone.

Big Plans for 2013!

We hope this newsletter finds you all fat and sassy, as we used to say, and enjoying the new year Gods blessed us with. Its always refreshing to think of new beginnings, of all things made new, of fresh starts and good things around the corner. The more time we spend in Encarnacion, the more we feel sure about the vision Gods given us for starting the youth center here. Weve been working on the details lately--all that fine print known as legalese. We are eager to share the plan for the youth center with you in person, hopefully in a few months. Christie has her (God willing) last surgery planned for February 5, when the doctors will remove the titanium plate and 9 screws holding her femur together. Shell spend a couple months on crutches without being able to use that leg, then she can begin to learn to walk again, this time with hopes of a total healing. As soon as the doctor clears her, we would like to go to the U.S. for a couple of months and share the vision we feel God is giving us for this time, this place. At the same time that Christies surgery takes place, the court system will be reopening after the yearly vacation they take each January. At this time, we hope to get more information about the state of the legal case against us. We are still praying that justice will prevail, and that the truth of what happened in Christies accident will be stronger than the corruption and desire for money. Our prayer is that God will resolve this situation for us, as it looks very bleak in human eyes. We trust Him to come to our rescue against those who falsely accuse us, as He promises in Psalm 109. Please help us pray that all involved in this will come to know the Lord as a result. As God works in these situations, we go forward with plans for a trip to the U.S. when they are resolved. We hope to see you there!
